What color to paint

Hello everyone, I got about tired of being the guy without a nice car so over the past 3 years Ive saved and creeped my way to having the ability to change that. I have a 86 firebird and Im gutting it out. Everything under the hood is gone, the interior is in really good shape or really bad. The carpeting and seat coverings need replaced badly but everything else is perfect (dash etc). Needs to paint job also which i was thinking maybe black and silver but not sure. I hate having a similar car to anyone else so i hate red on firebirds even if it looks nice.

Anyways Im definately getting a 350 going carb, replacing rear end and want a different style hood other then stock. I figured this was the site to ask for opinions on just about everything really. Paint color, engine paint, engine bay paint, interior color, engine parts, exhaust (im partial to flowmaster), hood type etc etc basicly the whole project.

thanks for any input.

Blacks a great color,it's just a bear to keep clean you see every imperfection in black, but then again there's nothing like a clean black show car take your time with the body work and it'll pay off.

Here's a thought too. What about that old school gold with a black interior the gold that came on the late 70's trans am that was a nice gold.Just a thought.

If you need a carpet or upholstery here's a link to our Pontiac Firebird section on the site.

Re: What color to paint

I would recommend a spintech for exhaust its unique sounding. I would like to see someone paint a third gen the sunset orange metallic that is on the newer GM cars. That color with some 18in rims chrome will definitley catch some looks. You could even use that color to paint some accents in the interior also with some grey or black cloth.

Re: What color to paint

i love the yellow camaro, only certain cars can pull off yellow and that one sure as hell did.

Orange is sounding better and better to me. black with orange as a secondary. I have to decide by this weekend as i have to paint my engine and engine bay and it needs to match. Im a complete amateur and have no previous experience so this should be some fun. Going to before and after pic everything of coarse and keep a baby book.

Re: What color to paint

If you were thinking about silver that's what I would go with. They look very good in silver and you don't see many that color. Also, it is a very easy color to keep looking good. I had a daily driver silver '85 Trans Am for years and even when it was filty it still looked good.
