Cleaned up my engine bay!
Hi everyone, Im a newer member here. Name's Picasso ( I paint for a living). But anyway Im in the midst of finishing my 1986 Firebird. It has a Chevy 350 carb'd motor with a 700 tranny and posi rearend all done by previous owner. Here are some pictures of what I have recently done today. I completely removed all of the computer controlled wiring and cruise control. It makes the engine bay look so much better. I then cleaned the bay with paper towels and paint thinner. I painted it with gloss black Rust Bullet from Summit Racing. I would recommend this stuff to anyone, I work with paint all day and this stuff did an amazing job at sticking to everything and it is very glossy. Rust Bullet requires little to no prep work. Sprayed right out of my mini HVLP gun too.

Thanks. I will post up more pics when I get everything reassembled in there. It was disgusting to look at before but it took me awhile to figure out what the previous owner did. He definitely wasnt the best with routing lines or not hacking up wiring.

Re: Cleaned up my engine bay!
Yea I decided not to take the engine out because once winter hits I will be saving up for a big block or maybe a supercharger. The motor thats in it now is built pretty nicely its a very quick street car. I just wanted to get this car road worthy so I can drive before its too late this year. But I pretty much finished up painting the bay. The nice thing about Rust Bullet is you can paint it on with a brush and it still lays down very smooth. I had to use a brush to get into those hard to reach places and I didnt miss a single spot even with the engine there. Now I just need to clean my engine and make it pretty too.

From my experience I will never use another product for this type of coating. I was amazed at the quality of Rust Bullet and it sprayed very smoothly through my gun with no reducing. It was about $40 for a quart, which covered the entire engine bay, front end, gas cap area, tailight area, t-top area, and inside of both doors TWICE.

Really nice - I'm gonna have to do this.
Do yourself a favor - et rid of that crappy foam air filter - those things have a tendency to melt with a backfire, getting sucked in and making a mess in your carb and intake - and all carbed motors backfire sooner or later!
