tbh i wouldn't say tinting it is the hard part, thats easy. It's the removal that is a bitch for our cars because we have the copper wiring for the rear defroster. i got quoted for 100$ to only remove the tint on my rear window alone( was already half off and peeling)

And then the same store said 150$ to tint 30% for both doors and rear window all together

Wow thats really expensice. Yeah recently had my windows tinted for 100.00 even. They said the rear window was extmremely difficult due to the defrosters, they had to cut around it. By the way these were master window tinters and it took them 4 hours to finish. I also had the top of the winsheild tinted, it looks sweet! Goodluck man!

$100 for side windows and rear 5%. The back window didnt come out bad at all except for a small crease in the lower right side. The key to getting the back window done right is to use a heat gun and alot of patience.

Me and my friend tinted mine, i just laied on my back with the hatch open and he rolled it out and trimmed it then handed it to me and i just squeeged it on and it looks really good. No bubbles or anything, everyone askes me if it's pro and i just smile...

Somebody please tell me what to use to remove the adhesive residue from the old tint. I managed to peel the old tint off my hatch but the now non-sticky adhesive was left behind. I tried a bit of gasoline and it worked but I prefer a less toxic and less flammable way of doing it.

TIA!

IIRC, ammonia or even a steamer might work. Try Googling or Youtubing the topic there used to be a lot of videos on the subject where they showed how to do it and such.

Re: So is it really hard to tint thirdgen rear windows?

You don't need to buy any tint remover of anything like that. Some soapy water and a razor taken from a OLFA knife will work perfect. I had old tint off in 10mins.

For the defroster on the rear , again use the razor and scrape it off. It comes off easy. My car does not get driven in the winter so I had no use for the rear defrost. The bands on the inside of the window just pull off , then scrape and wash the lines away.
