I am looking to paint my car very soon. Please post pics of your red or maroon third gens...preferably TA's. Also..along with the picture please include the name and paint code. I really want to see what the brilliant red metallic GTA looks like...and a Jade red. Thanks.

That's GM's Flame Red Metallic with a little bit more pearl (?) in it than usual. The car was maroon before, and I left the exact mix up to my paint guy.

My 86 Sports Coupe came from the factory with the same colour that you fellows are calling Flame Red or Maroon on your TAs.

According to my RPO it is actually called "Victory Red" and is GM paint code 91.

Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate it. Please keep them coming. I am looking for more of a red color...that I saw on a local GTA. Does anybody know what I am talking about? I am not sure what year it is...but I know the color wasnt the flame red metallic. Also...what do you guys think about torch red metallic? I saw this kid from my high school paint his vette that color and I thought it looked really nice...how do you think it would look on a TA? What about porshe red on a TA? Let me know what you think.

So far I like the bright red and the stock red on QwkTrips car the best. There is something about QwkTrips car that makes it look so nice...that is the nicest formula I have ever seen. I want a red like that. I used to want flame red...but I want more of a red...not a maroon. Dont get me wrong the flame red metallic is one of my favorite colors....but I cant picture my car in that color...plus it would look dumb with a red red engine bay and a maroon red car. So what about a fire engine red...or a candy apple red? Any pics of third gens with those shades of reds? Any opinions or suggestions? I am thinking of some kind of metallic red. So please keep the pictures coming...and you guys have some nice cars.

Anybody out there with some brighter reds? I still dont know which color to paint my car. I am looking at fire engine red, candy apple red, and flame torch red. I just dont know how they will look on my Trans am. By the way...the paint shop will be using Dupont paint...is dupont a good quality paint? What makes a paint job bad by the way....is it the paint itself...or the body work not being done properly? I mean if I brought my car to Maaco(which I am not doing...just an example) why are their paintjobs not so good? Is it that they just overspray...is it that they do not sand and primer the car? is it that they use cheap paint? Sorry for all the questions...it is just that I dont want to mess up my car with some cheap paint job..so I want to make sure dupont is a good brand. I will probably look to sell my car in a year or two...so I dont need the best...but I am still curious about what makes a better paint job. Also..should I avoid letting them use a lot of bondo? Is bondo not a good thing? I dont have many...if any dents in my car...which is pretty good since it is an '83(even though all the fenders have been replaced with those from an '87) But parts that originated from '83 do have rust...such as in the door jams and under the rear ground effect. Those are the only 2 spots where I saw rust...now when they go to fix this...what are they going to do? How will I make sure that they take care of the rust properly? Thanks.

Here are some pics of my car. It was painted last year, and the PPG sticker says it is "1997 Viper Red". At first, it looks alright. After you've seen it for awhile, you fall in love with the colour.

For some reason the pics don't show, so follow the link in my sig.

this is paint code 8774 GM FLAME RED, used from 82-present on all GM RED CARS, including corvette, camaro, grandprix, and more.

the car was painted two weeks before this picture was taken, and the stock IROC wheels are back on now.
