....best matches the silver ground effects on an '82 -'84 Z/28?
Before anyone says "get the color code", I have. I had both a touch up pen and had some spray cans made with the correct code. I know metallics are tough, but it just comes out substantially darker.
I bought a can of Duplicolor Silver Metallic as an experiment, and it's actually closer than the "real" stuff, but maybe a tiny bit too bright.
Any advice?

Remember that the stuff in the can matched the paint as was in the factory, not how it is now after 25+ years.
Maybe try Krylon fusion?

Hit up your local auto body supply shop. Have them sample the existing paint. They'll have a gadget that they hold against the paint and it tells them how to mix paint to match. Then you can have them put the mixed to match paint in a spray can. They could probably do a bottle of touch up if that's all you need too.

Oh, for sure. But it's just plain the wrong shade of silver out of the can - too dark and brownish. Actually, I've already repainted 3/4 of the ground effects, so matching it to the old paint is no longer the issue. As soon as I find the right shade of silver, I'll probably repaint whole thing again..Originally Posted by Apeiron

Plus, I'm not sure that putting the right (metallic) paint in a can will give the right color when sprayed. As soon as I can find a mass marketed silver in a can which matches the correct color, I'll redo the whole deal.

Okay. I only did a small test area on my front spoiler, but it looks like Duplicolor silver mist DS503 is a match for our silver ground effects.
You'll have to order it from NAPA since you probably won't find it off the shelf.
Can't wait until it's warm out!
