they're cut down third gen lights, I'm not doing the first gen mod, I was just say'n they would fit the car better than the "new camaro" tailights, mine are kind of a mix of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen

someone on here has done it, I saw pics a while ago, it looked alright, but too many people already think a Camaro is a poor man's corvette.

Pull the lenses off.....
Buy some lexan sheets....
Heat them up to form the wrap around ends that Camaros have.....
Paint them to your hearts desire on the inside, creating whatever pattern you want, like FYRCHKN did his, to some stock lenses.

Keep in mind I will do the name "Camaro" body color, not stark white, also, if thats your car, thanks for letting me chop it up!
Looks good, but not as good as the stock thirdgen stuff.... Can't mess with success.

I like what FYRCHKN did, but I think I would end up trashing the lexan while heating/bending it. I'm more skilled with metal.

Re: 5thgen taillight mod

I'm torn on what i think about it.
On one hand it'd be nice to see an interesting new mod. But on the other hand you have a beautiful third gen and i'd hate to see anything compromise that. But in the end its your decision, if you have the $ go for it as long as it bolts on.

One question, so your going to be modding an existing third gen light housing to make it fit? If so wouldn't it be a total PITA because you'd have to weather proof it and somehow bolt the new lights in where the old lens used to be? i'm a little confused on this part.

But if anyone could make this mod look good it'd be you and that beautiful camaro, so good luck!

I say go for it! It'll be a great mod when completed, and if it doesnt fit your expectations you can always go back to stock.

Re: 5thgen taillight mod

Thanks for the kind words!

As far as the weatherproofing, the housing would be completely made out of metal (probably aluminum) and would be fully tig welded, ground smooth, and sealed on the inside with seam sealer. The housings will be the same shape as the stock lights to make them a direct swap. The only thing I may use are the black plastic pieces (the area circled in yellow in the previous pic) that contain the license plate lights. Then those pieces will be modded for reverse lights. So far, that's the theory...

I also agree. One of the things I can't stand about the 5th gen is the taillights. And they look even worse on the 3rd gen! I can't stand the shape of them or why the heck they have "chrome" trim around them.

If anything, the 5th gen might look better with the 3rd gen taillights.

Re: 5thgen taillight mod

Well, I just priced out a new set of 5thgen lights and even with my discount, they are still pretty expensive!

So, if anyone has a line on a used set in decent shape (maybe from wrecked car hit in the front), then please let me know!

I've seen it done. It doesn't look very good in my opinion but at least its reversible.

Well, I see all these hate posts, but I rarely see a constructive reply about different ideas other than "leave it stock"...

If there are other taillights from other vehicles that you think would mold or blend well with a thirdgen Camaro, then please let me know.... other than "Stock"....

same here. I tried taking the grid out of an old delaminating spare set of lights I had, and I put a hole in the outer lense.

Re: 5thgen taillight mod

i say go for it man i think it will be bad *** once its done, you caught heat on here for your wheels but everyone who sees them in person loves them

if you wanted an alternate taillight to use, a first gen camaro light might work, but it also might look too old for a third gen...

I think that would look way better than the "5th gen" "camaro" tailights.

Re: 5thgen taillight mod

Camaro lights are styled into the whole rear bumper, into the spoiler, and into the rear quarter panel. It's becuase they wrap around and they are a central part of the styling theme of the car to fill the space between the bumper and the spoiler that you're gonna hav ea hard time doing anything unique with them. Having a blank piece of plastic/fiberglass whatever wrap around on the side looks pretty crap, honestly. Messing with the shape isnt really something that's gonna be easy to pull off. The colors, yes, but not really the shape.

Re: 5thgen taillight mod

I'm going to start off with the shape of a stock taillight and modify the metal housing from there to accommodate the lines / angles of the new lights. When I'm done, it will be a direct bolt-in, but may have a slightly different shape when they are done.

I'm still looking for a decent set of used lights because new ones are too expensive.

If anyone has a line on a good set of used 2010 camaro taillights, please let me know!
