White Spots Over Clear Coat

I noticed a few patches of white on my trunk
(conv.), so I ttried to get them out with wax, then Turtle Wax green polishing compound. Now, I've got LOTS of white spots and streaks everywhere. Scratched the clear coat? DOH! How do I clean up my ignorant mess?

I believe you can do nothing about it. The clear coat is breaking down due to the sun. Soon you will notice the white patches getting bigger and the clear coat disappearing leaving the paint showing in the middle. The only way is a new paint job.

What ever you do dont get a cheap paint job worth $295.00. Your car is worth more than that. If you take it to that place (we know who) they will even paint you tire for you how nice. Some how they always forget to paint the door jams. The paint seems to last for a year or so if its always dark out and never rains.

I'm having a similar problem with my hood and the top of my rear spoiler. My guess is that the offending parts have to be completely redone OR MAYBE you can wetsand it to the point that the clearcoat is gone and the base color remains, then spray on just the clearcoat. I'm gonna have a bodyshop look at mine and see what they have to say. I do know that if you just polish it real good and then wax it you can make the problem appear to completely go away. HOWEVER, it keeps coming back. It's a problem that is really ticking me off. Good luck to you.

sanding the clear down is called blending basically. its when a shop takes one panel that needed worked on painted it and it wont match perfectly so they sand the next panel down and then reclear it. its real easy and inexpensive.probably about 150.00 for the job
