Sratches....easily touched up? Or must the entire panel be repainted?

Can paint scratches be touched up? Or do you need to get the whole panel repainted? The scratch basically looks like what it would look like if somebody relatively lightly scraped it with a key, but the scratch is in a funny place such that I don't think that's what happened. Is this a cheap fix?

Well, if I were you, I would go to Wal-Mart (the one here has a LARGE selection of GM code touch up paint) and try that.. if your car isnt GM code, they may have it there.. make sure the scratch is clean.. and take your time, if its really minor, no one should even notice it when your done. Good luck!

I touched my fairly large scratch up pretty well using the tech article on here. Fill in the scratch with touch up paint, wet sand with 2000 grit paper. Repeat. then apply clear coat, wet sand with 2000 grit paper. Then use 3M fine cut rubbing compound and then 3M swirl mark remover. Mine looks ALMOST perfect. Good luck.

If the scratch is very light then any polishing compound should take it off. If the paint is gone and you can see primer or metal underneath then to do it right the whole panel would have to be redone. I used to work at a body shop and we did a lot of restorations and if the car was ever scratched we would have to repaint that entire section. Even on cars that were keyed in the parking lot customers were shocked to find out that every panel that was keyed would have to be repainted or blended onto.
