I'm too tired of GM's BS to bother crying over this. The tone of this missive seems to imply that the decline of the F-body was due to forces beyond GM's control. Nothing could be further from the truth. The General has done everything in it's power to decrease the popularity of the Camaro and Firebird. Poor ergonomics, price-gouging, insane maintenance issues, out of date product cycles, and a complete lack of advertising support all point towards a concerted effort to hasten our favourite cars' death.
Good riddance I say to the short-sighted suits, who can only guage their own success by a ledger. Perhaps the corporate moniker should be changed to "Private Motors". Generals need to be leaders, and this is a role no-one at that corporation seems willing to assume. As a lifelong devotee of the Bowtie, I will continue to own and drive older Chevy's, but if the day arrives that I decide to buy a new car, no current or planned offering from GM will be on my short-list.
Nothing that will be left in the General's stable will qualify in my books as affordable performance. The GTP, SSi, Monte Carlo SS, et al, are all based on conventional 'family' sedans, with performance relegated to an add-on to promote sales of what are basically, underachieving and mundane forms of transportation. The SSR and Vibe are both UGLY and they beg the question how many more 'new' truck concepts do we need to endure.
One last word of advice to the paper-pushers at GM: both AMC and Chrysler eliminated affordable-performance cars from their line-ups by the late-seventies and we know what that did to their corporate image and sales. Those who can't recall history are doomed to repeat it.

I'm not incredibly bothered by it either. The 4thgens weren't all that awe-inspiring in it's looks to me compared to a first or third generation, and even some second generation F-bodies. There's always (or at least for a long time) going to be an aftermarket base for what is out there now, and styling trends haven't exactly been going along with my tastes so I can't imagine anything better would come out even if they did continue the F-body line.

Ya, I guess that's why Ford is selling Mustangs hand over foot(with model variations and special editions in abundance). And why they're going full-bore ahead with designing the successor to the SN95. Guess that's also why they're reintroducing the T-Bird as a 'sportier' version than the last version. And I suppose Nissan and Mazda must be crazy to be contemplating reintroducing their 'regular sports segment'(the the 300Z and the RX-7) models.
Gawdforbid GM should take any of the blame here. I mean the fact that the fourth-gen's are 9 years old, when the whole industry is moving to 3-5 year product cycles has nothing to do with it. Or the fact that, aside from the engine, nothing about the fourth-gen's puts them ahead of a 1988 model(and let's face it, without the Vette the f-body would still be using a circa 1985 motor). And the complete lack of advertising support hasn't hurt the public awareness of this range(meanwhile the Pontiac Grand Ma and the Chevy Crapalier get millions in ad support, yet they'd sell with minimal promotion).
Let's face it GM, you have no sense what a car buyer wants anymore. Your entire car range backs that up. One more boring cookie-cutter after another. The only division that has shown anything resembling innovation in the last 10 years is being killed-off. Soon you'll be selling nothing but trucks(might as well reduce to one division to maximize shareholder profits). And when impending safety, emissions and economy regulations kill the ultra-profitive light-truck segment, your lack of foresight and innovation will relegate you to the scrap heap you so richly deserve.

How can you kill a American Icon? Without a doubt the Camaro is THE greatest car ever made. The bang for the buck ratio is only topped by the Corvette. When I was growing up all I ever wanted was a Camaro. In my Senior year in High School my dream became a reality. Sure its not a v-8, sure it does not have all the goodies, but it is still a Camaro. I get more good comments on my car than I could ever imagine, not too mention the lots of women that love it. I can not count on my hands how many times others have asked to take my baby for a spin. When me and a couple of my friends go out crusin, everyone wants to ride in the camaro.
How can they kill a car as special as this? I love my 2 f-bods and will never own anything other than a f-bod except for a winter beater.

I agree, it really sucks that no more f-bodies will be produced. But the spirit of the f-body will still live with us all. I hope they bring it back in a few years.

Well lets look at it this way camaro was put here to beat the stang they did their job so i guess its time to leave.I think that chevy is crazey i will say it agian i think chevy is going down hillthey are to hi price. Why we say good bye to camaros i think we should also say good bye to chevy. i dont think they will be the same any more
