AM i the only thirdgen owner who has problems with people alwasy trying to steal them

just an hour ago, i'm at work and my pager for my alarm is going off. didn't hear the alarm at all, look out the window and see two dudes jogging away from my 91 rs vert. i ran after them as they got into a honda and pulled out as i through a brick that hit their trunk lid. they didn't even stop at the stp sign. some of you may know that my 89rs was broken into twice last month within 3 days. stole my system infront of my girls house, and 3 days later, busted my column, had the gauge lights lit up but coudn't get it started i guess from here at work. now my other car is being targeted. just seeing if other people are having the same problem trying to keep their cars. honestly, it's extremely stressful. is there any other precauctions i can take? i have an alarm with a pager, club. i know i do need to tint the windows on my vert now. it just pisses me off that i put all this time and money, all most everything i have into these cars and everytime i turn around, someone is plotting on them. just needed to vent a little.

Granted it's not gem but, I can leave the tops off my camaro & the windows down all night, wallet, cds & stereo face in & sleep easy. I believe area/location has alot to do w/theft sadly enough. Iv'e never desired/needed anything major to justify taking someones personal posession. (I'm not referring to 'borrowing' company items ).

i have the same problem with my 'bird. broken into twice in the last year or so. the first time they all out shattered my passenger window. the second time there where two to them, i didn't see them but i could tell. i have t-tops and when i walk out to my car i see stuff spread out on my seat from my center console....i am pissed. BUT neither window is broken and i lock my doors everynight. somehow, they managed to pop my windows out of the track. you know where that little triangle rubber piece is next to the side mirrors, both windows where out of the track....then they some how mangaged to unlock my doors. the funniest part (if there is one) is that they left my cell phone and 300.00 radar detector and took about 20 cd's and tried to get my head unit out but couldn't cause its bolted in real good. idiots!! its finally time to tint my windows and at leat i have a good reason. i don't think there is anything you can do but hide stuff and hope for the best....

Well my friend it depends largely on location and what is popular in your area. Ricers overpopulate the streets here in North Jersey so nobody is interested in a 92 camaro. heck, I've left my vert parked on fifth ave in New York City several times for a few hours with the top down, stereo in...no problems except for pigeon poop on the back seat once.

Now...a guy I know up the street had an 88 GTA that got stolen right out of the parking lot where he worked down in Kenilworth in a crappy area. The worst part was there was a security guard at the gate that knew everyone by name. He was able to get the car back (minus seats, t-tops, stereo, wheels, and with keyed up paint), spent a few thousand to repair it to brand new condition, only to have it stolen again the very next time he drove it out. But it comes down to: if they want it they will take it.

clubs don't do much as the crook will just cut the wheel. smart crooks get around the kill switch. I've heard stories of the crooks pulling up with a flatbed towtruck and just yanking the car out of the lot. if they want it they will take it, but overall I think thefts of third gens is very low compared to other cars.

Hey, I left my car in the slums of syracuse NY for 7 hours and nobody touched my car... I think the key is to park next to more expensive cars, they won't even bat an eye at a third gen with a new beamer across the street LOL.

ive had an alarm for about a year now and it's never been triggered. i always go to the store and leave the tops off and windows down and i've never had a problem. where you live is important, this area of florida is one of the lowest in the nation as far as stolen cars go. only prob is a couple years ago someone stole a Z28 emblem off my iroc, but thats it.

Man you guys are all lucky if you haven't gotten your cars broken into, both of mine have been broken into more than once. Their not even nice about it and break the window, the busted the door lock out of my 92, and cut a hole in the door of the 98, and they both have alarms! I finally gave up on driving camaro's to work so I bought an 86 trooper p.o.s. thinking no one in their right mind would touch it, but it got broken into too. Downtown K.C. just sucks!!!

What black84ta said. Get one of the switches out of summit that allows the battery to be disconnected by a switch and mount the switch some off location. You may still have your stuff stolen, but better than the car. As far anyone trying that... no. Then again, we rarely have any crime around here.

So, as far as the kill switch, is there a way you can put one on and not have to reset your stereo every time you get in the car? Or perhaps put it in the line of the starter?

Well I know one thing I have coverage from thefts and acts of *** and the likes of that and nobody messes with my car but if they did take it I would probably find one in better shape for the money I get back from my insurance.

Hey RiceyRS... I recognize your car. We met a few months ago when a friend of mine organized an F-Body meeting over at Metcalf South in Overland Park... I was the guy there that didn't HAVE an F-Body.

Anyway, he's right, downtown KC has a lot of problems. My dad's Olds was stolen a couple of months ago from that area. Down here in Overland Park where I live, crime is very low. It's overrun with ricers but I don't hear about many thefts...

mine is rigged up to the coil. i don't really know how though cause i bought the car with it already installed. when the kill switch is on all the pwr accessories work and the motor will turn over but it just won't start.

I am extremely careful of where I leave my car, but I have had no problems as of yet. I live in a pretty rich neighbourhood, there's alot better cars than mine to steal stuff outta. Such a BMW's, Mercedes, Porches run rampant, some Ferrari's, Vipers, Luxury SUV's a plenty..

Did any of you see that informecial about the bullet proof car theft deturrent. It attached to your brake "The strongest part of your car", theives can't get to it, and when they do, theres absolutuly no way they can get it off, because it doesn't use a regular key, it uses those round ones that are a bitch to crack. Plus it comes with a bright yellow steering wheel cover alerting criminals that you have such a device installed. THAT SOUND GOOD TO ME!

I think it would be good to get a sattelite tracking system put in the car. I am not sure how much they cost, but i've seen lots of ads for them.

I have dreams about people stealing my car all the time. Thats some scary *** dreams!

invest in a louisville slugger alarm system.. just sit and watch it somewhere concealed.. when u see em trying to steal ur car, put that louisville slugger to work.

Now on being serious.. id invest in a better alarm, with the proximity warning etc. Make it loud so other people can hear. Get one of those column disconnects maybe even so you can pull the steering wheel off.

How do they get around the VATS security system? I read the tech article on it over on the SEthirdgen board, and the VATS system seems pretty solid. Any of you had your car stolen with VATS?
