ss hood & ram air

The ss hoods for the 3rd gen Camaro are they functional ram air on them. The only reason I ask is because I was looking at the site and it said "please specify tpi or carburetion" I figure that the only reason for there asking is bc it has a cold air induction or ram air assemble on it.

From what I understand, the ASCD SS Hoods are functional ram air hoods. I plan on getting one when I switch over to a ZZ4 engine sometime next year.

they are NOT ram air functional. However, they can be made to work, at least on a carbed/TBI car. So far I have not heard of a TPI hood being capable of rerouting the air, too sharp of an angle (maybe even have to make it go backwards) to route the air to the throttle body.

On TBI/Carbed engines it's as easy as fabricating an air pan to make sure the cold air runs directly to an open element filter.

The SS hoods are open in the front and closed in the back, meanwhile the Big Block hoods are closed in the front and open in the back.

Hope this helps

Guess that was a misunderstanding... maybe I was thinking of the carbed engines.

I emailed ASCD awhile ago asking them a couple of questions about the hood....and one of them was what the difference was between a carb/tbi hood and a tpi hood......he ended up answering all questions but that one...however...he did say that a tpi hood wouldnt fit on a carb/tbi car and a carb/tbi hood wouldnt fit on a tpi car.......so i GUESS it is something to do with the form of the underside of the hood (like the Strut tower braces).

Just a quick comment... the 4th gen SS air intake sits on top of intake about 1/3 of the way back on it. The air ends up making a 270 degree turn to get the throttle body. So I don't think it would be completely unreasonable to think you could make one work on a third-gen, especially on a speed density car. Just my $.02
