Clear coat over decal?
Hi, I have a 1987 Iroc-z convertible that I took to the paint shop earlier today. The paint color is metalic dark red. The painter is going to apply the decals after painting. Anyways, the painter asked me, on the IROC-Z decal, if i wanted the decal applied, then the clear coat applied over the decal, or if i wanted the decal applied over the top of the clear coat.
I'm not sure which would look best, and wanted to see if anyone had any advice or experience with this. Thanks!

I'm fairly new to the paint world but don't you need to let the paint/clear cure for awhile before applying a decal ?

Re: Clear coat over decal?
id put it under the clear, last longer other then fade. i painted my design then cleared over it and to me it gives a neater/cleaner look, and you cant see the edges. odds are if your ever going to pull the decal then your probably repainting again and would need to under or on top anyway. so i'd make it look as clean as possible, and ya what "ronsum" said that paint should cure before they throw that decal on.

I agree the paint should cure before applying the decal.
Regarding the decal fading I still have to see that happen .I applied mine after the paint and clear coat cured and that was 7 + years ago .
I guess it also depends on the quality of the decal mine was a factory GM one.

iv never seen a decal fade either if the car was taken care of. you let it sit out in field under the elements and u might be in trouble. i was just making a point.

Fine to put clear over the decals, the clear also serves to seal up the edges of the decal and protect it a bit...
