Only cracks I've ever seen on a thirdgen hatch were on convertibles near the boot. Never seen it on coupes. Where exactly on the hatch is the problem?

Right on the middle of the spoiler. That where they like to push.

I thought you meant the hatch itself, which I thought sounded a little unusual. Cracks in the spoiler I can understand a lot better, especially on Firebirds with big tall wings. The spoilers on Camaros are fiberglass (which will stress crack, but is easily repaired) but thankfully usually short and strong. I think the ones on 'birds are either fiberglass or urethane depending upon the application, but I'm not sure so I'll defer to the Firebird experts out there. Unfortunately it sounds like you need to kick some a$$.

Those original spoilers suck!! Mine is cracked all over. But hopefully I will get a fiberglass one soon.

I think it is rubber, why would they make them like that. Maybe to give the body and paint shops more busneiss.

I don't think mine is rubber, at least it doesn't seem like it. I've seen a rubber spoiler on my cousin's 240SX (ACK *****) and the paint looked HORRIBLE. I don't know what it is, but it might be fiberglass. The paint sticks to it really well.

Your 2.8 firebird has the regular wing, not the wrap-around spoiler. The wing is fiberglass, but GM in their infinite wisdom, decided to make that giant spoiler out of recycled erasers.

Re: How many have that paint crack where people push down on the hatch?
the Firebird and '82-84 TA wing is fiberglass and typically pretty durable. The '85-90 TA and formula wing is urethane foam cast around an aluminum extruded frame, and that stuff absorbs water and cracks. Once it starts cracking it won't stop no matter what you do.
If you have some dumbass friends that will sit on that... well, you need to get different friends. Why anyone would be pushing down an anything back there on a 'bird hard enough to hurt it I have no idea, you just have to get it to close a little bit and the power pull down takes care of the rest.

People post on an old post stating that others are posting on an old post.
