How to avoid my ride being considered "*******?"

I absolutely love the Third Gens, just like almost everyone else here. Unfortunately, not many other people in my town (Murrysville, PA) seem to think that way. Around here, my car is considered to be a "******* car," even though it is in great shape. No matter what my car looks like, I get stereotyped. What I'm asking is, what can I do to my car to avoid this evil title? I plan on getting my IROC rims polished; hopefully that will help with the situation. Right now my car looks completely stock on the outside.

Thanks

Oh you ******* you! If that is what is considered *******-what is the big old rusted-out Ford truck with the chrome stacks and glasspacks lifted about 5 feet off the ground called then? Your car looks great and if that means being considered ******* then be a *******; you have a damn nice ride!

I already have an aftermarket hood in my sights; the ASCD SS hood.

I was thinking about putting 91/92 Z28 ground effects on, but I don't know how hard it is to do that -- I'll try searching the archives for info on that.

I was going to put the 91/92 Z28 spoiler on too, but that would surely be considered rice around here... seems like I can't win! I kinda like the stock spoiler anyway; it seems to flow with the lines of the car.

sammycalderon, a "*******" is like a Southern US person. Not everyone down South is a *******, it's just a bad stereotype. In third gen context, its those people who drive beat-up Camaros (usually) and think their car is "great." Unfortunately, many people associate our cars with that because there are so many people that ruined their cars by not taking care of them and thus turning them into a "*******" vehicle. In addition, rednecks are often associated with driving big trucks. (I better stop now before someone gets mad at me )

EDIT: Thanks camaro chick, I appreciate the kind words!

People like my car, because its in pretty good shape. But people online say my car is white trash (because its faster than theirs?). Yet they're driving some POS their mom drove for six years before it was handed down...

never really had that problem. Even when red. Then again, I live in the south where they are true rednecks. So, who knows. Once it was painted and the wheels arrived, I've yet to have anyone say it's a beat up ******* car. But then again, I never had it before... either way, who cares. Looks good. Make it look better your on way, not what others want it to look like.

Heres an idea: convince local hicks and ******* to buy trashed out thirdgens, so your car will look bad-a$$ by comparison. Here around Dallas, I have that luxury; there ar a billion thirdgens around here but 95% of them are busted to hell and back, so my car looks great compared to them, even though my car isnt in all that great of shape.

Damm, I'm 35+ and bought my car new (I was 22 at the time, and that was a year or so after I graduated ), and the 88 IROC I just bought has primer, so does that make me a *******??? If having my thirdgens make me one, then so be it...

Is this a real problem or are you just using it as an excuse to post your pic and fish for complements?

Oh well...Nice car. By the way, anyone who calls an your IROC a ******* car, show up straight-pipe late one night and write 'You Suck!' with your back tires on their lawn!

Actually colinfinkle, I had a few people consider my car "*******." One of my "friends" even called it a ******-mobile, which really ticked me off...

Nice idea, I might have to try that sometime... Thanks for the compliment, too.

I get called a ******* a lot because unfortunately I live in the richest county the US (Fairfax). I am one of the very few thirdgens around were I live. It pretty funny though to be able to burn kids who go to my school M3's and lexuses. Who cares what others think as long as you like your ride.

Looks like a well taken care of IROC to me. Around here the ******s drive trucks, and the little thugs drive everything from camaros and mustangs to imports. I have owned three camaros now, and have always gotten compliments. There's always going to be somebody who thinks its their duty to put down your car.

Get nothing but compliments around here... like "Wow, what year is your car" "Sounds awesome".

I always get this though

"Is it stick or auto"
me "auto"
"oh that sucks too bad its not stick"
me "Auto's are just as fast as stick, they are actually more consistent."
"No way stick will crush an auto"
me "Maybe in another car yes, but gm autos are very good"

and thats my typical conversation

Well, I say embrace it and scare everybody into thinking you're some cannibal from the ozarks... My plan: Get a big firebird painted on the hood, a pair of cowboy boots and I'm gonna paint the rest of the car in flat rust red... stop brushing my teeth and maybe a mismatched door panel too... plus I'll put it up on blocks whenever I come home...

Seriously, I get the short end of the stick, because all of the firebirds around here are flawless with great paintjobs, while mine is in great shape, it does need a new paint job... But most of the camaros are rusted out.

Get some 17x9 front and 17x11 back wheels... problem solved!

Do you like your car? I think it looks great. Now I live near a big city so I never hear the ******* comment but then again I am African American but I never hear my friends saying or using the term. If people don't like your car the HELL with them. You know your car is sweet and the chicks know it's sweet and that is all that matters. If someone would make that type of comment to me I probably would stop associating with them because they would not me the type of person I would want to be around. Up here all anyone want's to do is try to buy my car for a cheap price.

Around here, mostly hispanic people drive thirdgens, and most are really beat up (no disrespect to hispanics). Thirdgens are a dime a dozen here, but there are a few I have seen at Cruiser's that look pretty good. There was this nice lookin GTA (owner was hispanic) that I thought was a TTA, but just a very clean and well maintained one.

Hell Yeah!

Man, when I got my Firebird, I thought my friends would love it... only 2 out of 4 of "the gang" did... If you look at my car (link in sig) you can see the cavalier that one of my friends drives behind it... he called my car a ******* ride the second he saw it and comented "I woulda got a Miata or Porsche" (my *** cavalier boy) you just can't win sometimes... but he's a real cheap *** , so I know he'll never get that porsche he's talkin' **** about. My friend with the Mustang was happy to see a real playmate for his car... poor guy's got a 2.73 rear end, which is wasting the 215 HP 5.0

You really shouldn't care what other people think and if it were me, I'd just put my pimping accessories on or embrace the ******* image.

Better a ******* than a *****! My trailer trash car blows away BMW's in the corners and in the staights, for a ton less money, and looks better too! They're just jealous that their Euro-Jap cars were advertised as "driving machines", when they're all just soccer-mom commute-o-boxes.

WTF??!?!? Somebody please buy that car off of whoever owns it and put it back the way it should be! Why do people digrace the thirdgens in this way? Can any of you ever imagine seeing a LT1 or LS1 car like this? Breaks my heart. Did they do that to the 1st and 2nd gens too?

Some people should never own a camaro

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, 16" IROC rims and ASCD SS hood.

future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames,
T-56 almost ready to go in, TPI swap coming up

Wifes new car:

95Z28, AT, leather, T-tops bone stock for now.

future mods:
header to tailpipe replacement and a cold air intake. Then I am just going to leave it alone

I once saw a guy with an 85-85 SC that went to a junk yard and pulled the hood scoop off of a second gen, and riveted it to the hood of the 3rd.... Now what kind of crap was that!!! None of the lines matched, nothing went together.... it just looked awful!
Poor poor camaro....

BTW, both of the passengers had ******s... I laughed for a long time about that! The perfect stereotypical *******!

your car looks nice, leave it alone. And the 4 inch cowl hoods are just ugly. Some new front turn signals would make a big differance.

Sunbound-first off, no offense to your truck specifically. I once had a 69 chevy with stacks and packs; and wooden bed! I didn't carry myself as a ******* and I'm sure you don't as well.
Hey you guys- you just gotta love that custom hood (cheap spray paint and all)! If that doesn't SCREAM "I'm a stump-jumper" , I don't know what does! Again, blue86iroc- ignore what everyone says or thinks- you are very lucky to have an 86 in that good of condition, especially up in the area you live in (I know it snows pretty good there). I wish I could get my pic to work- I have an 85 iroc (I want to be a ******* with "y'all"). Fortunately for me a girl in a thirgen is not a ******* in the Chicagoland area, but are considered ***** on occasion. I suppose wherever you live, you will find people who are jealous of the fact you have a great looking car that will soon enough be classic. Wait a few years until our cars are considered "antique" or "classic" and see what the jerks that knock yuor car say then!

I saw another third gen Camaro not too long ago... it was practically falling apart, its white paint was all dull and chipped, and it had this massive hood scoop that looked like it was either bolted or riveted to the hood... it made me sick to even look at it. And yes, it had mudflaps.

There are two other third gens that are parked at my school; one looks to be a beat up '82 or '83 that has a lift kit installed. It's even got the cheap-style "Outlaw" bullet hole wheels. The other one is a '91/'92 RS with the rear end completely misaligned... looks like it was in an accident of some sorts and they never got it fixed right. Of course, mine would look real nice sitting next to theirs

Geez, when will these few people start taking care of their vehicles?

I don't see whats wrong with it. The hood is awesome. And he saves weight by not having clear coat paintjob. I estimate he dropped .001 off his ET from that alone..

Wait, no, thats just terrible. The red car that hit his front end ALMOST put that car out of it's misery.

ANY car can be a ******* car if it's rusted out, poorly cared for, has confederate flags painted on it, and is fixed on cinder blocks in the front lawn. I've seen rednecks in CRXs before, and let's not forget, they also have a strange attraction to MkIII supras and 80s 300ZX. Any car from the 80s in poor condition can pretty much be considered a hick car. However, I've seen a few hoosiers in 3rd gens, but their cars don't look ****ty. in fact they look clean and they sound really really mean. I wouldn't want to race their camaro cause he's probably got half his paycheck put into the damned engine. It's a stereotype for the most part, it's still got some truth to it. There is a hick with a beaten up white berlinetta with a 305 that shows up to our street races all the time to spectate but never runs his car. probably a good idea not to since he wouldn't beat any but the slowest cars there and the car looks like it was patched together with staples. But then there's a guy with an '86 IROC who races during the summer. He talks a ****load of smack but he can since his car runs 10s.
