Cleaning plastic T Tops

Any ideas on cleaning the aged look in plastic T Tops? I can't really tell if it's on the surface or in the plastic. I did try cleaning one spot with Meguiars plastic headlight cleaner but it didn't help. Any ideas or is it "is what it is"? Looking for glass but until then.......

Re: Cleaning plastic T Tops

I have the same problem on mine. I tried the meguirs also and no noticable difference. I did look out from the inside and they are all checked. Almost looking like broken tempered glass that didn't actually fall down. This is in the lexan and obviously will not polish out. I am looking for a set of glass for mine. However I may have found a good deal on a pair. A pair of glass t-tops w/ a gm t top bag for $100. Only problem they are 5 hrs from me and will not ship.

Yeah glass is the only way to go with the lexan messed up. I did luck up and find 2 glass sets that I can get for $50 a set and not too far of a drive so headed there Saturday. Was the lexan stock on a 92 Bird and glass an option?

Re: Cleaning plastic T Tops

The lexan was stock but I am not the most knowledgable about options so I do not know if glass was even an option for 91-92 years.
I just found another set for $100 about 3 1/2 hrs from me but am thinking about the other set w/ the bag for the same $100. Just more gas to get them.

The glass tops will swap in, as long as they are not the hook type (the C&C tops). I have a 1992 Camaro, I swapped in glass tops from a 1986 Bird.

Yeah found 2 glass sets at good prices with the pins that I'm looking at. I'm sure the lexan's came on the Bird I have so I'll keep them also. Mine have the key locks on the latch handles and hoping I can swap those out. Dunno yet about if that can be done or not.

Re: Cleaning plastic T Tops

I would keep the lexan ones and paint them the color of the car. Easy mod and it gives the car a hardtop look.

I would think so, there's only one screw that holds the handle in. I like having the locking option.

My C&C t-tops are pins.

The hook type are 82-83 style.

When I find a glass set I'm going to get the lexan ones painted. I think it would look great.

FYI: I did some research on cleaning lexan plastics and there are cleaners for lexan. A couple of articles said (and said it worked) using toothpaste! Clean first, keep wet and using a soft cloth rub the toothpaste in a back and forth motion. Heck I'm going to give it a shot!
