Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
whats going on boys!!
ill be building a 24x24 attached with my new house on the edge of the city this winter. im interested in members that have lifts in there shop/garages.
ill have a 9'1'' ceiling, keep in mind the garage door height of only 7' im conserned the track will conflict with the lift and the vehicle in the air. a picture is worth a thousand words. at this point i can still make structural changes. i might consider an 8' door to solve this problem.

if your building. I would deff. plan taller in the garage to accommodations of a lift.
Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
id still like to see someone squeeze a lift with a similar garage ive decribed^
it is a city lot and there is going to be some compromise, i wish i was building this place around the garage but 24x24 is more that the rest of my neighbors will have 20x20 18x20... but im a car guy!!
Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
Your gonna def need taller garage ceilings! I had 9' ceilings in my last 3 car and even with an 8' doors I would never think about spending the money on a lift, and not being able to even crouch under my lifted car. Your gonna want 11' ceilings to be able to get enough height under the car to make it worth it.
Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
You could consider scissor trusses. Just in the process of finishing a 32 X 56 with 10 ft side walls and scissor trusses. You have about 14 foot at the peak which is plently of room for a 4 post lift. I dont have my lift yet but designed my building from another customer of the contractor and that customer had two 4 post lifts. If you are only 24 foot deep, you might have to modify the garage door tracks.

This is a Knight Rider fan (not in US).... When my car is off to get painted, I will fix mine up (do the floors), but not like this... he made it look like the inside of the Semi that Kitt pulled up in...
Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
Wow... Alot of niiiiiiiiiiiiiice garage/shop... Hope i can get something like that some day! Especially the garage with F-bodies and Vettes... Hmmmm C5 or C6 + 3rd gen, what a nice combo! But im only 23 so I need to start somewhere! :P
So this is mine... Little but clean at least!
Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
In the village where I live there is a restriction on the size of detached buildings. However, if you add on to your house you can build much larger. So when I needed more room I added 24 ft' to the back of the original 2 stall. I installed a 16' insulated overhead door between the old part and the new so it can be easily heated.
I don't have any good pics of the Camaro in there.
And, just so you don't think that it is for show only........
Once the weather turns cold I spend a lot of time back there.

What type of tile is your flooring. I assume it couldn't be a ceramic, even though it looks like it. I like it and would love to copy

It is ceramic. I was planning on doing an epoxy type of floor and a friend of mine talked me out of it. He had done both types and was never happy with the epoxy. I do have a couple of small chips where I dropped heavy items but nothing that I have had to replace any tiles yet.(I bought an extra box of tile just in case) The floor has been down for 4 years. It is extreemly easy to keep clean. I used black grout and sealed it as soon as possible.

Wow! I never would have thought about using them other than maybe a muesem floor or something. I really don't do much "heavy" work at home so maybe I can look at that option. Good place for me to get better at tiling before I tackle two different bathrooms haha!
Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
you guys all have alot more room than i do mine is deep and tall but lacks the width i need, then again this is me and my wifes first place and a small garage is better than no garage
Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
Here's mine, before and after. Floor was painted by prior owner and after 10+ years was lifting bad in tire tracks, plus had a lot of chipping (caused by cheap cement and shale pops?). Either had to strip or grind off all the old paint and repaint, which still didn't address potential chips later or put something else over the top. I went with RaceDeck flooring and am very happy with it. Been 2 years now and is holding up well. Have to be carefull when jacking up a car though as the wheels from the jack will leave an indent in the tile, I just use a piece of wood under the jack to help spread out the load. Heavy/really messy work is done in the 3rd partioned off stall. WARNING: I find myself washing the floor every so often (and squeegeeing and mopping to dry) to keep it clean, so you've been warned. Also, the color choice was based on school colors and the purple is darker in person.
Before pictures (well, almost before, had placed the 1st row of tiles in the front and along 1 side before I remembered to take pictures:
Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
My uncle's new shop. Its where I do all my work, so I gotta say I'm spoiled. The lift, heat, and lighting makes work super easy and efficient. I just pulled my stock LS1 out, I'm putting together another 347 LS1 in my "quest for 10's".

They are made by "INTRO" and are called "VRODS", they ran about $3800 with tires. I made a thread about them several years ago, let me see if I can find it.
Front: 19X8-backspacing of 4.75, P245/35/19
Rear: 20X10-backspacing of 5.75, P275/35/20
No Spacers

Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
It doesn't look to be minus 28 degrees in there but it is (This being January in Canada). Let's just say that my hobby is seasonal....unless I'm building cylinder heads on the kitchen table.

I've used a tiger torch (mine is like a flame thrower from WW II ) and go blow through a 20lb tank of propane in a day. Mind you it does heat the shop up. To tell the truth, I don't mind having the shop unheated for the few months it's too cold to work otherwise I'd spend ALL my time in there and never get anything else accomplished.
Having said that, the shop is 75% insulated (just need the ceiling done) and I am planning to put some heat in there. Then I'll never finish the kitchen renovation....but my 3rd gen with be awesome!
Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
Well, here is what I have to work with! No garage for me. The one you see in the back is my mom's and she has a Corvette and a Mustang in there. In the process of trying to get a house, will post pics if it all goes through!
Re: Pics of your Garage set ups for your thirdgens!!!
Great thread, glad I found it. It was cool checking out everyone's setup, definitely some inspirational garages in the bunch.
Mine is more temporary...My fiancée and I moved to this house with an attached double about 2 years ago with the intention of fixing up the house slowly over 5-years and turning it for some profit in the ridiculous realestate market that is the Toronto area...At which point we'll move out of the city to something with more garage.
So my goals for the garage thus far have been to make it functional to work on my projects cars and store some of the fleet. It was half dry-walled and insulated when we moved in and I've yet to finish it (but I will). I just don't want to pour tons of time and money into a garage I am going to have to leave in a few years. Also, my thirdgen is my daily, so it typically lives outside. My truck and Mercedes get the lift side, and whatever random project car I have gets the one open bay....When I am between projects the two firebirds share the open bay. The first couple pics are of when I first had the lift installed, the rest (shitty phone pics) are more current...not that a lot has changed.
The second last pic is my other third gen, which is currently stored at my grandmother's detached garage....awesome size (good for 6 cars or so), but it's drafty and the electricity is too sketchy for working on anything. Last pic is where my T/A currently lives outside
