Polished a bad paint job till it shined. *VIDEO*
I am nearing the end of the month (or so) long re-birth of this car.
I bought it for cheap as dirt, not running.
Since i have replaced a few things, got it running (still needs tune)
And soon t'll be on the road.
Heres a few vids of it after polish and wax.

Looks good but without before/after, it doesn't tell us much.
Even a pretty wasted black car can still look pretty good at dusk.
What are the details of the polish job? Machine, hand? Claybar?
Etc, etc.
Like I said, it looks decent, but we'd need to see it in the light.

Here are some photos i took this morning. Still have some swirl marks
So i started by washing the car very thoroughly. Dried it. then,
I used a black pigment polish, by hand. made by turtle wax.
Then, used a spray detailer to get the polish off, by hand.
Then came wax, also by hand. Used black pigment carnuba wax.
Anyway, im proud of the results. keep in mind, it was a really bad paintjob.

Your order should go like this:
1) Wash with a citrus soap to strip all old wax, etc. to get it down to the paint.
2) Clay the entire car with plenty of lubricant until the paint is completely smooth (wash the car again to remove clay residue)
3) Preferrably using an orbita/DA polisher (though you don't HAVE to), you want to use some type of cut/paint correction product
4) Then you need to use a polish with micro-abrasives
5) then a glaze to fill in any remaining little swirls (optional, they should be very very minimal/nonexistant at this point)
6) Two coats of a good sealant
7) Two coats of a nice wax (by hand)
So it should be something like:
wash-->clay-->cut-->polish-->glaze-->sealant-->wax
Hope this helps.

Sounds good, puma. I think im gonna try your method next.
Todays payday, so im gonna go on a little camaro spree.
Although the appearance is important, I want the thing to run right.
I need to find a throttle body gasket set, so i can through my new throttle body on. My iac is bad, so idle is a little weird.
But after that, ill definitely use your method. Thanks for the info.
Orbital buffer will be purchased aswell! Thanks

That Turtle Wax "Black Box" system is great. I used it on my old black T-Bird and the results were excellent! Restored the hazy black to deep black. Anyone with a black car should give it a try, even makes newer paint look super black.

But it's not fixing the issues, it's just a cover up. You need to compound and polish the surface to restore the shine. These gimmick color based waxes and such will fade back to the nasty original finish you had before. If you use that as a baseline for when to redo all the work, you will never be completely satisfied.
Those products are designed for people trying to sell a car and make it look great until the new owner gets it home and finds they bought a car that might need paint. I personally believe the products to be unethical when used that way, and we all know that they are being used that way.
