removing wiper arms

What's the best way to take my windshield wiper arms off? I want to repaint them and retime one as it sits too low and always hangs up on the bottom edge of the windshield glass?

I appreciate any advice!

Thanks.

Re: removing wiper arms

There is a little thing on the side of the wiper arm at it's base. Just lift the arm and hold it up (hood open), then use a flat head screwdrier to pull out the little tab on the side. You'll see it. Wiggle it and eventually it comes off.

Re: removing wiper arms

Ok, I took the wiper arms off no problem. Now, when I go to put them back on, it's like the linkage has moved so the wipers are not in the same position as they were when I took them off. There's no option to move the arms as there are tabs on both the linkage shafts that only allow the arm to go in one position.

Need some help ASAP!

Re: removing wiper arms

First, the inside sockets in the arms that sit on the drive ends of the transmission are probably stripped to crap like most are. New arms are about $20 a piece.

Second, put only the passenger's side arm on where you want it, and then take the screw out of the middle of the cowl screen and lift the screen. You'll see where the transmission hooks to the wiper motor. About 2-3" from the nut there will be 2 little screws in the transmission arm. Loosen these and move the passenger's side arm where you need it, and then tighten the screws. Generally, the pass side arm should sit about 3/4 of an inch below the stop for the driver's side to be where it's supposed to be. The passenger's side arm gets lifted up and onto the stop when the adjustment is completed. Adjust the arms so that the driver's side wiper stops about 1-1 1/2" from the edge of the windshield when up all the way, and do check this as you don't want the wiper running off the edge of the windshield and tearing the squeegee off.

Re: removing wiper arms

After reading Mavericks reply, I realized that there isn't a wiper stop. DUH!
Any idea where I can get one?

Re: removing wiper arms

Just checked... Driver's side is molded into the cowl screen and pass side is bolted on . Check the classifieds and/or local junkyards.

Oh, and the arms themselves are adjustable. The pass side has more adjustment than the driver's side.
