New guy and a Firebird.

Hey everyone.

My name is Tim and i just bought a 91 Firebird from a Freind.

It has a 305 TBI, 5-Speed, Boyds wheels, Hurst Shifter.

171,000 miles.

I gave it the Nickname the FireWhale becuase i think it looks like a Whale more then a Bird....lol

So I have a few things i would like to add to it.

1. Headlight motor. (Ordered)

2. Struts.

3. Magniflow Exhaust.

4. Polish the wheels.

5. New Seats.

Other than those it is going to be more of a DD/ Winter car.

I also have a 92 BMW 325i that was my DD now it is my Project.

Great looking Firebird, Welcome to the thirdgen community!

Unless the headlight motor is missing or in really bad shape, I would just rebuild the ones in the car with the rebuild kit from Top down solutions, I replaced a motor in my Bird as well and within a month the other one started acting up, the new motor...well got it working perfect out of a junk yard...only lasted a few months longer. I'm going on 6 months since I rebuilt mine and they work great, and it only cost about 25$. Best way to go IMO.

Re: New guy and a Firebird.

1. Log onto either the classifieds or eBay and find some headlight bezels. Leaving the headlights like that is just plain ugly. I'm hoping that with the new motor the headlights will go down. If not, find a way to fix that too.
2. LOSE THE NOSE BRA.
3. If you're planning on driving during the winter, get snow tires if necessary and a couple bags of sand to put on top of the gas tank hump behind the back seat.

I may have a console shift plate shift pattern indicator if you're looking for one to fill the hole in the plate you have there. I'll have to look for it if you want it. Also noticed your front seatbelt receivers are all broken to crap... Lots of people on here are selling good ones. Also, check to make sure the buttons in them are still bright red and not pink or white (safety issue, GM issued a recall for this). The rears on your car don't need this as they are standard GM metal buckles.

I hope i won't. My buddy drove it with bald tires and did well. The BMW was to easy so I bought something more fun.

Re: New guy and a Firebird.

The nose bra needs to come off or you'll end up with some serious paint and body problems... Stuff gets under there and just sits, eating through the paint and eventually the sheet metal (if there is part of the bra on the hood). Other than that, others have reported that the bra may even take paint off of the bumper or worse, deform it.
