Paint Job
Well I'm about 1.5 months out from "pulling the trigger" on a new paint job. I have not had an entire car repainted in 10 + years. What can I expect to pay for a middle of the road paint job?? Let me expain...I am willing to spend more than just what a Maco paint job would be, but I do not want to spend anywhere near 10 grand either. My budget is around 3K give or take a little.
All the body work is done, minus the final sand/prep work. Opinions???
PS Any recommended shops around the north Fl area??

Re: Paint Job
Keep In mind I had a friend help me with this.(other wise it would have cost me more). Here's a link to what I had done for $3,000.00. I don't see any reason you cant have the same for around that price since most of your prep. is finished. =

Re: Paint Job
Have you considered doing it yourself? I do not want to tell you what to do but I would highly recommend reading this discussion first:

Hope this helps, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Re: Paint Job
Are you keeping the original color? how are all your jambs? 3K on a base coat clear coat is fair with just prep work. I used to tell people it is cheaper for them to remove all the parts then us, lights, emblems door locks ect. The problem is today shops get caught up in the insurance game, those cars come first and paint jobs second. So if you pull a lot of the stuff they would have to tape or remove you could be ahead. Then tell them you are not in a rush and they may work with you. I can also say many shops (so have I) will tell you they will not touch or at minimum guarentee the paint unless they prep it prior to the paint. It is really hard to paint over someone elses work, sand marks show up after the paint shrinks and you can buff untill your machine burns out and you still have marks. If you ask for a final prep and seal coat with the paint you should be okay at 3K, I am into mine at $400 in just materials so far and that is at cost.

Re: Paint Job
Very good guys thanks for the advice!! Looks like I'm in the ballpark.
Yes I am going to keep the original color & the door jambs + hatch area are in good shape. The cars paint still looked good, but on the hood, roof, & rear hatch the clear coat started coming off BIG time! Hope to have it done by November, can't wait!
