painting engine bay

I recently put a full tubular suspension in my car and the engine bay is bare. It has a lot of surface rust, but can be taken off. I currently have the kmember and coil overs in, as well as the caster/camber plates. What is the best way to take these plates off to paint the engine bay so I am not just painting around them? I have to be able to take my car to a paint shop, so they have to be on. I also recently painted my wheel wells, so I dont want to just take the caster/camber plates off and lay blocks on top of the tire in the wheel well to let the fender sit on it as this will probably mess up my work in the wheel well. Ideas?

Re: painting engine bay

If it were me, I'd get a piece of 1.5-2" x 1/4-3/8" flat bar and some 1/8" rubber,
cut to length to span two of the adjusting slots,
drill 3 holes (2 the width of the slots, 1 center for the shock stud),
bolt in from the bottom side (using rubber to insulate to not marr wheel well paint),
bolt shock through center hole,
tow to destination.
Now you're just painting around 2 bolt heads/washers.

Alt solution, tell body shop to remove current mounts for paint once it's there.
It only takes a few minutes to remove them.

Only problem with the alternate solution is that they will have to find a way to keep the car up while the plates are off... I do like your idea though.
