Very clean and rare 1-LE - pics inside!
This is my boss's 1991 Z28 (1-LE). He bought it brand new in 1991 and garage collected it ever since. I've known my boss and obviously the car, for 15 years. The reason why I'm just now getting around to posting it is to do so while I'll still have access to the car because he may be selling it soon. (No sale related questions on this thread please!)
The car is 1 of 478 1-LE Camaro's made in 1991. What makes it even more rare is that is has a few options that most 1-LE's didn't have. It also only has 171 miles on it still to this day! It is a 350 TPI/Auto car with a deluxe interior (seats and door panels). No power windows, but it does have power locks and the deluxe seats with adjustable head rests and cloth (not vinyl) door panels. He had the dealer install a factory cd player, but also kept the original AM/FM unit. We figure it's probably one of maybe ten made in 1991 optioned like this.
Enjoy!

Stunning!!! Always like seeing a well preserved 3rd gen, especially rare models! That color is pretty cool. Looks like a dark cherry? I would go with a 100% carnuba wax. That'll bring the shine out.

Re: Very clean and rare 1-LE - pics inside!
To have only driven that car 171 miles is a damn shame. I hope the next owner is a little more proud of it than that. What about all the matinence items? Battery? Gas..? Tire bulges from sitting? Not sure how keeping a car garaged for 15 years is healthy for it...
Dont get me wrong, I love seeing how it would have looked all those years ago brand new.
Just sayin..

I wonder what all needs to be replaced on it now since it has sat for so long. There's a happy medium between letting a car sit forever and running a car into the ground.

Re: Very clean and rare 1-LE - pics inside!
It gets started once a month and gets moved around the garage. Battery gets trickled charged/maintenanced, but it has been replaced once or twice with a delco battery. Oil gets changed two or three times per year with castrol and delco filter. Tires are not flat spotted etc... it fires right up and drives like the new car that it is!
It needs three things from sitting for 20 years.... It needs to have the headliner fixed in one spot (small sag spot), gas tank needs to be repaired for filler neck pinhole leak (recall never done on this car) and another spot maybe (we are debating whether to replace it or not), and it needs a heater core. We bought a GM heater core and I will probably do the change on it soon. It's a pain in the butt to do, but I've done 6 of them and I can change it in about 3 - 4 hours. Other than those three items, the car is still pretty much brand spankin' new!
What do you guys think about using Zano wax on this car?

Zano is good stuff. I have always used The Wax Shop, carnauba based stuff...lasts a while and looks great. Not many places sell it though, I bought like 4 bottles when my local parts store discontinued it.

Incredible...
I dont get how people let these cars sit in garages either, i couldn't help but drive it all the time, but I'm glad they're out there.
The car certainly doesn't look like a neglected barn car. He clearly has a lot of pride in it. A car doesn't stay that clean even sitting in a garage without attention.
It's a shame the clearcoat on the wheels is bubbling, though.
Interesting that car doesnt have an electric hatch release... I thought that was just standard? I didnt realize they were even making manual hatches in 1991.

Clear coat is not bubbling, it's soap scum! We haven't detailed it, just washed it. Right now it will probably get a good coat of wax. Probably not gonna buff it, just hand wax it... And yes, this car was not neglected, it was ordered from GM and collected. He knew what he bought when he ordered the car.

Once it's detailed a bit, I'll take some video of it. The doors still go "poof" when you get in and close the door, like a brand new car! I'm gonna hate to see it go

It really is gorgeous! I just am curious why he didn't drive it? 171 mil, just don't understand. Was his plan when he bought it just to sit on in and use as a investment?I know some people are fearful when they have a nice car to drive it, thinking that someone might nail them. I hope who ever buys it flaunts it! At least at car shows

Can't wait to see more picture's. Could you take some of the rear hatch? Love to see engine picture's also. Thank you for sharing such a rare and sweet looking ride with us

Beautiful ride, thanks for sharing.
Hit it with some Chemical Guys 50/50 wax, or if he has the dosh (which I'm assuming he does), use some Chemical Guys Celeste Dettaglio. Both are beautiful carnaubas for metallics.

This one was bought for an investment. He has many nice cars, mostly classics and customs. I work for him at his race car / custom shop. I should have time to take more pics of it this weekend and maybe some video too. I'll bring my good camera this time so I don't have to use my crappy Iphone.

Have a 91 (GARAGE QUEEN) also with 12K on clock. Show car garaged and covered. Only had to replaced battery and smog pump (bearing went bad). Never washed nor waxed. Wax build up and yellowed, just use good polish and Mothers detailing spray.

1991 Camaro 1LE figures from the 1LE Registry, 195 1LE/L98's and 283 1LE/LB9/MM5.
This car is 1 of 195 made with a TPI 350. Then consider the int/ext color options plus interior package. I wonder how many other cars were built exactly like this. Probably not too many!

Well, in light of that, if he was my boss, I would give him endless amounts of crap over ordering an automatic 1LE!

But it's a beautiful car... great discipline letting it sit. He had to have had another one to drive, right? I bought mine with low mileage and I can't stay out of the driver's seat.

Less 350/auto 1-LE cars were made that year than the 5-speed 305's, smart investment..

I think in this case the fact that it's a 350 trounces that it's not a manual. For a driver the T5 is superior... for a collector car... a museum piece like this, you want the big engine.
Just my thoughts on it.

Re: Very clean and rare 1-LE - pics inside!
Window sticker was like 16 - 17 K I believe. 1-LE's with more miles have gone through Barrett Jackson in 35K range. My boss read this thread and said "yea, but it's not a good idea to keep gold in the garage".. Maybe he likes looking at the car just as much as he enjoys looking at the rest of the nice cars he has collected.

niiiice! didn't realize there were still some out there with that low of miles. I used to work at a Chevy dealer....and they bought the "78 miles 1LE" off of Barrett Jackson. They still have it and it's still forsale:

My '91 1LE is a 350/auto car also. Mine, I thought, was fully loaded as it has the deluxe interior (same as yours), power door locks, rear window defogger, and floor mats. Mine was ordered with a radio delete and the window sticker was $14700

Sooooo does your boss have any other F-bodies? I don't understand how anyone could resist the urge to NOT drive a perfectly running car that's sitting in their garage that they probably see everyday.

Not possible. The base price as shown on the window sticker up above is $15,445. Getting the 1LE performance axle and the L98 350 were upcharges.

Re: Very clean and rare 1-LE - pics inside!
that headliner will need a full recover most likely as the foam separates from the fabric.
as for the heater core, it better not take ya 3-4 hrs to do it, i do them right around an hr and thats putting all of the screws back into the box.
hardest thing for me is the 2 hosed in the eng bay. being its a low mile car those hoses should pop right off like they did on my friends low mile 85 IROC.
nice car, i would almost be scared to drive it for risk of something happening to it.
