Where can I get one for my 85 Firebird. I have a Formula hood but is isn't the best of shape. I was wondering if I could cut out the bulge and put it on mine?

 

Well,
if I were in your situation, I would not even think of going through all the work of trying to cut the bulge out and put it onto the other hood.
Why not just scrap the other hood, and find a hood in better shape?

Honestly, I am curious as to whether or not you are kidding. I hope you are!

I have been looking all over Long Island (New York) for a Formula hood with the tear drop scoop on it, All the yards I call laugh at me, and say those things get sold before they make it to the lot, Is there an after market company that makes one? Or anyone around here (NY) know where to find one?

 

I just got a brand new OEM steel hood for my 87 T/A from these guys for 206.00 total to my front door in 4 days.

The teardrop hoods are pretty rare. I have seen a few on Ebay. If you try to find one anywhere else, they are big $$. I'd keep looking in junkyards. You can always find a standard or 85+ T/A hood for cheap. Good luck.

Could he use a 82-84 TA hood as well? I thought they were the same as the Formula hoods.

Well...the tear drop hoods from '82-'84 are way different from the ones that came on the later formulas. I have one on my '83 TA...and I love it. It is a fully functional "ram air" hood of the eighties. Umm...it especially looks good on the '86-'90 TA's. I have one of those front ends on my '83...therefor my '83 looks like an '86-'90 TA with the teardrop hood on it. I love it...it looks so agressive. Umm...but if you have a TPI you dont need to get the "functional" teardrop hood from the '82-'84 TA's...instead just get the formula ones. I have a carbed 350 dropped in my car so I have the functional one. I was actually thinking about selling my car...and either selling my hood separately...or just keeping it in order to put on the next TA I buy. Well make me offers...I am located on the island. It is in great shape...it would need to be repainted...it is red...but the paint is chipping. I am interested in how much I could get for my functional one. I posted it in the classifieds yet I got no reply. I havent seen 1 TA around me with the hood on it...that is why I am having second thoughts about getting rid of it.
