high heat rated paint
high heat rated paint
Well i have asked my paint rep this same question and he didnt give me the answer i was looking for. First thing first my car is mostly show but i go for an ocassional drive... i wanted to ask if any of you have an idea that would allow me to paint my engine block in order to match body color. Right now i am using that dulicolor engine enamel but doesnt match my color well enough. My paint rep said i could use our regular ppg base and clear but doesnt know how well it will hold up to the heat. Please help.

Regular paint is fine. How hot do you think black paint gets in Arizona in summer ?
How hot does your engine get ? If it's past the above, you'd probably be posting in the cooling forum.
I'd probably skip the bc/cc and just use single stage, it's an engine... how glossy does it need to be ?
Around the exhaust ports would 'probably' be the only concern area. But, I've yet to see a problem with regular duplicolor. Powdercoat didn't discolor or bubble around the ports on Pillsbry10s ports on his turbo v6 so...

Re: high heat rated paint
Yea my paint rep said the same thing about black paint... dont hold me to ot but i think he said xots rates to 300°
I never actualy measured the external block temp at max temp before...im guessing 4- 500°??
And i have aluminum heads so they wont be painted just the block itself
Also i would go single stage but we cant mix single stage metallic colors. My stripes are 815k which is chevy arrival blue( used on the ss cobalt and silverado) i mean duplicolor looks fine but i like to go with that extra detail ya know. I know kandied91z painted his ls engine candy red but he is never on anymore to ask about it.
