Repaint estiamte

I went to MAACO today for an estimate. My front drivers side and front bumper cap are in primer, the rest of the car is "arrest me red" I have 1 dime size dent in the quarter panel and the wing has severely cracked clearcoat. The car looks good for its age, its just time to have it done. I was quoted $500-600 + $150 for the door sills. What do you think?

Should i remove the bumperettes? The guy told me to because he could paint it a lot better. I am pretty sure that you can't take them off without taking the entire thing off. Should i remove the plastic trim that runs along the middle of the door? Can i get new ones and do they come in the correct colour or do i have to paint them?

What kind of warrenty do they have? He said they come in 6mo, 1yr, 2yr, 4yr. Is there a difference in the paint quality or is it just the fact they will fix it if need be?

Thanks for the help

Are you trying to match the paint color to the rest of the car or are you getting the whole car painted¿

If your getting the whole car painted do as much as you can before you have it painted it should save you some cash in trade for you time.

I am having it painted the same colour. So i would be better off taking off everything... what can a take off and still be able to drive it there legally.

I see your from Randolph, are you using that Macco in Rockaway? Russian sounding guy? he gave me the creeps. If you have the bread get it painted by a reputable shop, not Macco.

Yeah thats the guy!! I took it there just to get a rough idea of what i was getting into. He complimented me on the car then gave me **** for installing the new fender and bumper cap without painting it. I told him i could take them off but he told me not to waste my time and that they would "work around it" Of course he did the usual we have a sale on X paint job now that won't be offered when you want to get it painted... i hate that!!.

Unfortunitly i don't have the cash for a $2K paint job like i want. If i can hold out long enough i hope to be able to afford $1K. I don't need it show quality, but i don't want the paint to fall off when it rains!

I got mine painted at the place next door to them on 46, Troast Auto body. Ask for Jeff Troast - he might do it on the cheap if hes slow. It can't hurt to ask for an estimate! Tell him Jeff Walker sent you...
Good luck!

Omega,
I see my link in my signature is not working (I just fixed it), here are some some pics of my car before, during and after my restoration, you of course will not need all the work I had done.

Viking,

How did you get your car to look that on the top of your webpage?! That must have been some interesting paint

Man, they took apart EVERYTHING! They did an awsome job. If you don't mind me asking, how much was that in total? Your right, i don't need anywhere near that kind of body work. The 2 slight dents i have shouldn't be to bad. One of them is on the section that is between the windsheild and t-tops though, i don't know if that will be a pain.

I am pretty sure when i have it done i will have it flat bedded there. I plan to take off all the parts my self and just have them do the rest.

I will have to swing by there this week. Thanks for the info!

Omega,
I found that graphic on the net, but its easy to do in Adobe or MS Image Composer. Troast originally quoted me about 2k for the paint job + clear and some other minor things, but of course as the car comes apart other things surface that you did not know were problems and need attention and my total was more than double that, but still well worth it.
Remember Macco will not be taking the car apart to paint it, they will just roll it on the booth and shoot it, but even a Macco job is better then driving it around looking like ***
Send me a pic when its done, maybe I'll see you driving around here!

It looks awsome, even from the pics its looks like it rolled off the factory yesterday. I might get my boos to spray it for me. I will have to do ALL the work except for spraying but all i will have to buy is the paint. Oh the decisions!! I will certainly post pics when she is finished.
