Is there a way to paint the engine bay without removing the engine?

I'd like to have my engine bay cleaned and repainted. Is there any way I can have this done without removing the engine?

Since I've spent a dozen hours the past two days working on my wiring, I've thought about the same thing!

There really isn't a real big portion of visible color with everything in place. I'm thinking it could be done once the coolant and washer bottles as well as the battery were removed. Cover all looms and a/c lines with wrapped aluminum foil and then an old heavy blanket could be draped over the engine. Tape and mask off the plastic cowl upwards as well as the front quarters and radiator area and a spray job should seem do-able. Anyone tried this idea?

What did you use for paint and what type of finish did you use (semi-gloss, flat etc)? My car is white and I'm looking for the best, closer to stock look until I get the whole car repainted next year.

Heres a link to a thread in which the individual did the work theirself. Looks quite nice.
