A new spin on the Coolant Overflow relocation
Hi all,
I've seen the threads on using the 4th gen coolant overflow tank, but that won't work with the stock GTA airbox, which I didn't want to move/modify. Since I'm not running a charcoal canister, I wanted something that would work in that location. The answer came from Dorman, who sells a universal overflow tank under part number 603-001.

Due to the size limitations, I didn't want to use the nipple that was sticking straight out of the bottom of the reservoir, so I cut that off and inserted a concoction that I put together from the plumbing isle at Home Depot. I wanted a 1 piece 90* fitting that was threaded on one end and had a 3/8 slip-on hose fitting on the other end, but Home Depot didn't have any. Of course, after I finished this project, I found exactly what I was looking for somewhere else, but I digress. I wound up using a 3/8 elbow, a pipe-thread to slip on hose fitting adapter, and used a 3/8 to 1/2" pipe adapter that I cut the threads off of to use as a nut.
Here's a picture of the parts:

Here's the stuff all installed. On the inside I used RTV sealant to ensure that the tank doesn't leak:

Here's the passenger side area where the airbox and the tank go:

Here it is with the lower airbox/smog pump mount installed:

Here's the air filter housing and the tank set into place for pre-fitment:

I drilled 2 holes in the fender support and used the removable-style plastic fasteners:

Here's a pic from another angle:

Added a new 3/8" line from the radiator to the bottom of the tank and it's all done:

In case you were wondering, the stock overflow tank cap fits the new bottle perfectly, so it winds up making a very stock-appearing installation that is completely reversible in case the car ever needs to have the charcoal canister put back in.

I used the smaller one from Vatozone and hide it under the cover in front of the radiator. Loks good.
