LED Headlights Incoming
So after being inspired by a post in the vender review section, I did a search for LED headlights for our cars... didn't expect much, but was very surprised to find these...

Perhaps even more relevant for us....GE is also developing a 4x6 LED Headlight system

Do you have the 4X6 Quad lamp system?
The 4”X6” (165mm) system is in development and should be available before 2014. - See more at: http://www.gelighting.com/LightingWe....Whl5CVj5.dpuf

Wish they would make them for the firebird. I would buy them in a heartbeat. We use LED headlights at Acura and they are great.

those should fit 91 and 92 Firebirds. JW speaker makes some different looking LED headlights, part led, part projector.

Lumens in hi-beam is 3200, lo=1550.HID is 3200!

Who drives w/ hi-beams fulltime.Where's the lo beam pic?

Only 6 LEDs in lo-beam, but the pic above is for hi-beam

Deceptive advertising should tell you something.

Re: LED Headlights Incoming
in my experiences LED have not be developed for proper headlight function, if you follow the link to oracles website it clearly states note intended for highway use.
id be interested to see the output though im weary of good results. plus i have seen some less than stellar work come out of oracle so idk

Re: LED Headlights Incoming
I'd think that lumen output is kind of low for a car. Some bicycle lights put out 1500 or more lumens off a single LED, I have one that puts out 600.

Did anyone notice that their own ad says that they have not been approved for on-road use?

Re: LED Headlights Incoming
If they aren't DOT certified, they have to say that because they are not legal.
ANY mod you make to headlights , or any other lights , that doesn't have DOT approval is illegal.
Even E code lights, unless they also have dot cert, are illegal. Even if they are a million times better and meet a better code, still illegal. Just something to keep in mind when going to the inspection station or rolling past your local sheriff, or talking to your insurance adjuster after a wreck.

Re: LED Headlights Incoming
DOT doesn't actually certify or check lights, they actually adopt what the SAE specs say into law-- so you don't get to get the specs for free, you have to pay for them.
The SAE is not above taking money to lower the specs either; the 9004 headlight was such a poor performer that none of the assemblies using it would meet the requirements. After an infusion of cash from FoMoCo the specs were rewritten to allow it to barely slide in.
Yes, 99% of E-Code headlamps are illegal. The only ones I have seen that were SAE were of the "M" variety- motorcycle use only. But they are legal in every other country on the planet.

Even with one high beam working its still brighter than the stock high beam picture provided. I'd rather keep driving around with my stock replacement Silverstars than this junk.

Re: LED Headlights Incoming
Same can be said for who drives with the lo-beams full time?
Interesting is the other terms for the headlight beams:
I generally don't have people within 500 feet to the front of me, so I am using my main beam primarily
Interesting is the other terms for the headlight beams:
Low Beam = dipped beam, passing beam, meeting beam
High Beam = main beam, driving beam, full beam
So, it would all depend on where you are driving. In urban areas you generally are using the low beam due to other traffic.I generally don't have people within 500 feet to the front of me, so I am using my main beam primarily

I don't dog the stile but like that they are LED that mean les voltage and more light. And since my firebird has the hidden headlight don't care about the looks sonce they are not seen.

Re: LED Headlights Incoming
The power consumption of these (45 w advertised) is more than the 4656 it replaces which is 35 for either high or low. And I think your car is a 6054 which they do not have at this time.
These are what I ran in my Fiero and Cherokee and they rocked: Cibié 7x6. I got the ones with the city light, which is basically a marker light within the housing.

You guys should checkout some off road forums. Like the jeepforum.com if you want good info on led lights . They do make a ton that are good with a hell of a lot of brightness.

Re: LED Headlights Incoming
Off roading doesn't need the fine control of the beam pattern as driving in the city. My Jeep s were equipped with 2 pairs of lights, a set of cornering beams and a set of pencil beams. Great that I had a mile of illumination, but not for oncoming traffic
