Re: The end of an era..or is it?
I just emailed the company that makes them to see if they still make them for the GM cars. Upon some more research, it seems Torsen was bought out back in 2003 by another company JTEKT who now makes them.

Re: The end of an era..or is it?
Ok, I feel dumb. I read through the entire thread and missed that.
I have basically his exact rear-end, welded axle tubes, 28 spline moser axles, 3.73's and the 'Ultimate" diff cover, but a zexel torsen instead of an auburn unit. If a solid pinon spacer makes that much difference, I'm going to kick myself because I had one that I couldn't find when I needed to rebuild the rear end so it didn't get installed and the guy at the shop swore up and down I wouldn't need it.

Re: The end of an era..or is it?
IMHO I think a solid spacer is easier to setup because you don't have a crush sleeve to preload and if you preload a crush sleeve too much then it's ruined and you have to get another. With a solid spacer kit all you do is torque it and go. Solid spacer setup prevents the pinion gear from riding up the ring gear which causes wear and tear and eventual gear failure.

Re: The end of an era..or is it?
Thanks for info on that. I may swap out the 3.73 for a 3.42 the next time it needs a rebuild and even if I don't swap gears, I'm going to put that solid spacer in, especially seeing how it's helped your rear end hold up to 700HP for so long. That's really all any of us with a 10-bolt can hope for.

Re: The end of an era..or is it?
I didn't read the entire thread, so sorry if I missed this, but I love that wing on your wrecked car (looks just like the one I had on my old '82 Firebird) and would love to have it for the '86 Camaro project I'm starting. Is it available?
Also, saw you make top notch clear light covers that won't fly off. Are you still doing that? Need some for an '86 Camaro IROC Z28.
BTW, very nice build on the new car. Can't wait to see how it comes out.

Re: The end of an era..or is it?
Well it's been a while since ive been on here so i figured I'd post up on what's happened. A couple months ago I was to start a 406ci Dart SHP with a T76 turbo build. I figured I'd go for a cruise with my friends for one last weekend before I started tearing down the car. On my way back home some a-hole pulls out in front of me like I wasnt even there. I slam on the brakes and the car spun out of control into a guardrail doing 75mph. This was the end result. A Camaro that I've had for 22 years original owner purchased in Germany is totaled. Here is the carnage.

Engine still ran believe it or not

I even drove it onto the trailer but had to put the front left wheel on a dolly to do so.

Just a question though, about the original car, what spoiler is that? I really dig it.

BTW, you can get a similar look by buying a Fiero GT wing.

Sweet build. Sorry about the other. R.I.P thought, you should pull off your plenum cover and have a shop machine something cool in it. Seems like a great spot for something. maybe a memorial for your other z.... or maybe you just want to plain forget that happened. The saying is true, When one door closes....2 more open. What kind of H.p you planning to get out of the new car? Keep them posts coming!!!

Re: The end of an era..or is it?
Thanks, I still have that wing hanging in my garage. I think I want to keep it as a memento of the first modification I ever did to that car the 22 years Ive owned it. If I decide to sell i'll let you know. I don't make those covers anymore. Too time consuming and I have alot going on with this current car.

After I posted I noticed some posts where you said you had plans/instructions for the light covers, could you PM them to me?

Re: The end of an era..or is it?
I'll have to dig them up. They're in an old computer sitting in the closet. They were instructions on how to install the covers.

This is how it looked on my '82 Firebird with the Product Guild IMSA Kelly kit.
Anybody know where I can find the all aluminum louvers like I had on the old car?

Sounds and looks good!
Just me nit picking but I would have liked to see the front wheel pushed out a 1/2" or so, so it protruded as much as the rears do. Other than that is a beautiful car. Get some shots of the inside.
