Bird gauge cluster mods
I have a 140mph gauge cluster from an 87 GTA which I am going to put in my car. I dont like the stock red/ornage color of the letters however. I pulled out all the bulbs and removed the little orange condom thingies, and pulled off the needles, and scraped the orange paint off with an exacto. I hooked the thing up to a 12V power supply, and it look a whole lot better! I would reccomend this as an easy mod for anyone who wants different color gauge markings. You can change the color of the lights very easily, by one of these ways.
1.) Buy a pack of baloons (your choice of color), the very small skinny ones for making little baloon dogs and such. Cut about 1/2" off the tip, and you have yourself a new colored bulb condom.
2.) Buy a permanent marker, such as a sharpie, (your choice of color), and color the whole bulb. This may sound tacky, but it works very well. My friend and I did this to his 65 mustang to make his aftermarket gauges light up green just like the stock
gauge cluster.
I will post pics as soon as I take some.

I can't stand that amber color either so I used Autometer bulb condoms. The balloon idea is a pretty cool thought too.
Here are a few real crappy pics of mine. They look better in person.

(Kodak 3200 camera doesn't take very good dark pics. )
