Car of the Month Bait Thread

Have a pretty sweet ride? Think your car deserves a COTM Nomination, but you can't nominate yourself?

Know of a TGO member who has an awesome ride, but no one else knows about their car because they've made eight (8) posts since they joined in 2011?

lets make it easier for these COTM-caliber cars to get discovered by posting pics here in this thread.

Re: Car of the Month Bait Thread

Linson, this is an interesting thread you've started! I have several 3rd Gen car videos I've downloaded from youtube that I love to watch. One of my favorites is by a poster named robbeiroc on youtube, from one of our 3rd Gen brothers in Sweden. After some research in our member section, I found a similar name here:https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/member.php?u=52780

Not had the time to search for his posts here yet... I hope you all enbjoy it as much as I do!
Here is the video. LS2 T56 posted Feb11, 2014:

Great Idea. I thought of something like this myself so we can see what everyone has. Question, is this thread for posting photos of your own car, or someone else's?

At this point (10/2015), until my car gets a bath and I can take it to a decent background setting and take high quality pictures in bright sunlight, I'm not posting my own car. In the words of Bartles and Jaymes, "Thank you for your support."

Re: Car of the Month Bait Thread

I appreciate your request for vehicles " in a high quality, finished state " but my thinking is that at some point you'll be recycling the usual suspects. Perhaps that's the point behind this particular thread.
I've brought this up before but you may want to reconsider your stance on eliminating the great "project" cars that are out there. Many of the enthusiasts here, and I dare to say that perhaps most of the enthusiasts here, are in the entry stages of their builds. They're always looking for ideas and different approcahes.
I've seen many of the same cars in the COTM thread several times. This is just a way to mix it up a little. And no, my car is neither a project nor in a high quality finsihed state so I'm excluded for either category. Now if you a nomination thread for the "best 40 footer", I may consider that as an option.
Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there again.
Thanks for all of the good work Linson. Keep it up.

I was thinking either silver or white on mine, but I just kept thinking about the original Viper GTS and how awesome that car looks with the blue and white stripes combo, and I just had to go that way. I think white stands out a lot more and I was looking for a way to kind of separate the car from being one solid color. Silver would still look good though. If you aren't looking for quite as noticeable of a difference then silver would be a good bet.

thank you.
i know that it has been brought up before (to allow unfinished projects into COTM) and the most direct way i can address it is to say that that rule (high quality finished state) isn't going away. its not even my rule, but i can appreciate why it exists. basically, COTM isn't just for us. it has been used (and hopefully continues to be used) to represent us to the rest of the automotive world - so the COTM nominees have to be elite.

and you are exactly right as far as the motive behind starting this thread: not to marginalize or alienate the "usual suspects" but to get some new input - because we know its out there.

i'll put it this way. it is an honor to be nominated. and it is a pleasure (IMO) to see your car in those nomination and voting threads. and to win... so, each month i notify the nominees via PM that they have been nominated and where (the Voting Thread) to post pics and data. i mean, there are some guys that get nominated so frequently that i kind of feel bad PM'ing them asking them to post a bunch of pics and data again.

Hi Linson, I think this is a great idea!

Here are a couple pics of my cars, the 91 and 92 Z28's are 1LE cars both with just under 6k miles. The 87 IROC is an 11k mile car that is loaded. All three are 350 cars with original paint, tires, floor mats, etc.

Re: Car of the Month Bait Thread

Thanks Manic Z,
A lot of work went into this car just to get it on the road.
Now its my DD and one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned.

This is my first time working on a car to this extent and even though I was clueless in the beginning when it came to this car, I think it came out very well.
The car was on its way to the junkyard. I took a chance and paid $500.00 for it.

Needed paint badly, a fuel pump ,water pump , power steering unit ,new steering column/ VATS module ,intake manifold gasket, front windshield ,new front bumper cover and lower valance, new rear hatch motor, and hatch ,some of the interior including front seats, headliner ,door skins, console, etc. Just about anything and everything on it.
Tires now are Mickey Thompson S/T's
Runs like a champ.
9 years of hard but fulfilling work.

Finally found the Fourth Gen. Seats for it a few years back. A lot of what you see in and on the car was salvaged from Wrecking yards and Pick N Pull including the seats.
I know a "Very" gifted Professional Painter that offered to do it, so I saved for over two years.
It is in a finished state.

A car saved from the crusher....

Understood and thanks for the reply.
I will say that there are some outstanding examples of our 3rd gens out there and it's encouraging to see their stock rising as the years pass.
Keep up the good work guys.
You all started as a project at one time or another....except those "survivors" I suppose.

Sorry! Off topic but I have to know -

ev305tpi: Nice collection. How did you get the rearend to look like that? They are rusty when delivered new. Did you remove it from car, de-rust, and paint it clear?

Thanks!!! Lots of effort No clear, still bare. The original owner spent a tremendous amount of time with WD40 on it over the years. I have continued the tradition. When the rust just starts to form, a little WD40 and some 0000 steel wool pull it right off. It's not 100% perfect, but it's better than most when they were new on the lot lol
