Hood Insulation? NOS available
I saw an old post about hood insulation and figured I'd start a new one.
I'm thinking of replacing my hood insulation pad and wondered if anyone tried the aftermarket product Hawk's has or 1A auto..?
I'd be worried about the part sagging since it isn't molded.
There are a few NOS ones out there boxed and never opened but the are $399-599 and that's not including shipping.

http://www.camarocentral.com/1985_19...p/14099509.htm
I remember seeing guys at shows with jet black pads that had the IROC-Z logo or Z/28 back in the day and am surprised no one is making those.
I'm all for originality, but I couldn't justify spending $500-$1000 on a part that was $30 that you never see. I think $300 shipping included would be my breaking point..
If anyone is really looking hard for the NOS part, there's some out there but you'll pay.

Re: Hood Insulation? NOS available
I just picked one up from 1AAuto but I haven't opened it up yet. My car is in the body shop right now, but I'll post back up after the pad is installed on my freshly painted hood. From the package, it looks to be good quality.

Re: Hood Insulation? NOS available
This is promising! Thanks guys!
On the Formula do you feel the pad sags in between retainer clips?
It looks good in the pic..
The molded one is awesome because it is a solid molded piece the shape of the hood and won't sag. I understand the aftermarket ones roll up. I guess if they are stiff enough (not too floppy) they will stay in place..
I'm probably just going to get a new one.. My engine compartment looks awesome except for the hood insulator pad.
It seems like a good deal even if I don't love it.. Can't justify the NOS cost

Wow, those are expensive! Something for me to note if I ever sell my new in box NOS Crossfire hood insulation.

Wow I agree, that's way expensive, I got one for my GTA from Car Motorsports and I was about that much not as expensive but close but atleast it has the GTA logo and is better quality than the factory.

Re: Hood Insulation? NOS available
There were times back in the day when I was getting parts for my 87 in the mid 90s where I thought, "I should stock up on these parts"..
I remember my horn button popping off and I pulled into a dealer and got a new one and installed it right there.. 20 min after it popped off I had a new one on..
Those were the days..

Re: Hood Insulation? NOS available
Were these originally for safety or for heat shielding the paint on the hood? I haven't re installed one after painting the hood and may not if it isn't critical.

They protect the paint, help regulate the engine bay temperature, dampen sound, etc

People used to get a little crazy with the IROC logo, but under hood is cool for show..

Re: Hood Insulation? NOS available
I have an aftermarket pad I purchased from Hawks. Its not molded like the original, but it looks ok. It doesn't use as many of the clips to hold it up either. I think it only uses 9 or 10... Beats not having one and risking high heat bubbling the paint.

Re: Hood Insulation? NOS available
Mine is ok, but old looking. The engine and compartment is so spotless I think it would freshen it up to have a new one.
I guess I can keep the original one somewhere just to have it. Can't justify the NOS price on these.
