Not sure I would go that route. That's becoming the overused appearance striping. It's now used for the Dodge logo. Twin racing stripes (as well as off-center stripes) are over used also and show up all over on people's KIA SUV's and I've seen them on SmartCar sized econo-boxes also. We need to come out with a new striping package for car buffs IMO. I'm SERIOUS.

Was standard on grand sport corvettes....think its just aesthetics.

I'm familiar with the cars, but just wondering if there is any other symbolism other than aesthetics.
Interesting factoid:
Interesting factoid:
Former Corvette Assistant Chief Engineer John Heinricy owns Grand Sport VIN #001 and VIN #002.
A friend of mine who's in the design department at GM was at an event with John with one and some guy looked at the car and, seeing it was #002 says somewhat dismissively "...geez... I wonder where #001 is?"
John quietly replied "I left that one at home today".

Re: Calling 3rd gens with hash/grand sport decals
The Grand Sport stripe is actually called a HASH MARK and it was USED ONE TIME AND ONLY ONE TIME on a racing original Grand Sport. That one time started a legend and history.
The hash mark was NOT on the fender- didn't show up on the fender until the NON RACING 1996 tribute edition.
In 1963 John Mecom took 3 Grand Sports to the Bahamas for Speed Week (rich boys in the early 60's went there to race on street courses, google Bahama Speed Week and the Nassau Tourist Trophy-also understand that GM NEVER raced the Grand Sports, private parties only).
All three Mecom Grand Sports were painted the same color of blue. A single HASH MARK (red, white and black I believe-sorry too tired to go look it up) was placed on the nose of each car--THE NOSE--this allowed the car to be identified as it came down pit lane. This is 1963, no cell phones, no laptop computers, no in-car radios...just a sign board telling a car to come into the pit...can't see the "side' of a car coming at you down pit lane thus the hash mark to id the car.
The HASH Marks were done with TAPE NOT PAINT. The 3 Grand Sports never raced like that again...just that single week frozen in time....thus no more hash marks.....until 1996 and later during the C5R and C6R programs. Also understand the history or racing and 'safety--in 1963 pit lanes were not 40 mph safe zones of today...they were just part of the main straight...you worked on the car while racers blew past 20 ft away at 120mph. You didn't step into pit lane (the damn racetrack) unless you had to and for your car-thus car id was critical.
Hash Marks were again used in the C5R and C6R programs...NOT just fenders but mirrors...look at pictures of the #53 BLUE LeMans C5R from 2003. You will see 3 yellow stripes on the passenger mirror (pit wall side)...again a marker to identify the car to a pit crew. Even today the C6R has a "hash mark" in every race....look at the windshield CORVETTE banner--one car has a black background and the other red..WHY? Instant Identification when viewing the car head on...

Here's what I've done. I like it but have gotten mixed reactions.

Re: Calling 3rd gens with hash/grand sport decals
I was thinking something like this. And other graphics tieing in the hood or cowl.
With custom text saying LS1
I run a 4" glasstek bolt on cowl hood. It's easier to wrap the hood sides than the cowl, no paint for me as I just shot the car with new dark charcoal metallic and won't paint on it. Decals or dip only.

Re: Calling 3rd gens with hash/grand sport decals
So I just quickly wanted to see what the stripes would look like on my car. Ran 2 peices of blue painters tape side by side for a total of 4" width each stripe and 3/4" gap between the 2. I stopped at the first indent in the hood. Of course the stripes won't be blue but a Matt black or a 4D or 5D carbon fiber so it will be much more subtle than the blue. I plan on probably doing a custom graphic on the cowl sides with engine size and I'm running LS1 badges on the front will GFX.
I prob won't do 4" wide stripes but I think a 3.5" wide would be pretty nice. Placement of the stripes is alittle forward of wheel center.
Gona have to say I don't hate it!

Re: Calling 3rd gens with hash/grand sport decals
WEll I would be making these myself. THats hand cutting large sheets of vinyl. I have a good bit of flat black and the peices are only less than 24" in length. But I just saw the new 5D carbon fiber vinyl and i'm really liking it. Not sure how it would look since flat/matt surfaces show curves more. But I'm up in the air about the gloss carbon fiber not contrasting enough against the gloss paint... but in certain light it would look awsome. Ugh decisions lol.

Re: Calling 3rd gens with hash/grand sport decals
well I found a place online that sells dual 4" stripes at 1" apart at 22" long. This should just be enough for this with very little waste. They would just have to be cut at the hood line and the direction changed. I'm prob going to do matt black but I still like the new 5D carbon fiber so will likely order some of that as well.

Re: Calling 3rd gens with hash/grand sport decals
They are actually the same. They are the carbon fiber vinyl wrap I got some from a sign shop. At different angles it's slightly different depending on lighting. Rest of car is dipped. I recently removed the carbon Stripes because they started to peel and redid them in Plasti Dip too. You're looking to do the stripes in a specific size and spacing apart there's a product called knifeless tape that is basically like a pinstripe that you lay out and then put your graphic over it and then pull it and it cuts it from underneath. http://knifelesstechsystems.com
