I'm expecting another, "What's this car worth, and how much will it cost to fix it?" thread to be posted here any minute now.
not far from me... funny that car has less rust than a lot of the "can I fix this rust" posts here
I'm going to guess it hadn't been there for 30 years... first thought was I bet it was a insurance scam, hide it report it stolen get out of the loan... then eventually dumped.

Hence why I posted in history/originality, but someone thought otherwise.

This just blows my mind. How can a car end up there and no one know? Come to think of it though, during a cleanup of the Mississippi River near me years ago they pulled a full size Chevy van out of it.

Hmm, an 83 car that went missing in 89 , and ended up intact minus it's windshield & other windows in a small lake ... My guess would be that either some punks stole it for a joyride and then dumped it in the lake , or , like Avaitor857 said it was an owner arranged "Insurance Job" to make the car disappear .

Hey at least they didn't find bodies in it! I watched an episode on Motortrend that was about two vehicles, one a 50's chevy sedan and the other a first gen camaro, found in the same lake within yards of each other that contained bodies...
Remember reading that back then. It was 69 camaro with high school kids that disappeared on graduation night or thereabouts and a older man in the 50s sedan. Both cars ran off the road due to a sudden curve which faced the lake. Apparently at night with no street lights or warning signs.

If fully submerged (in non-salt water) there is no exposure to oxygen, thus it won't rust like it would if sitting on the bank only partially submerged.Originally Posted by 84 1LE

Just jack up the gas cap, slide another '83 Firebird under it, and you're good to go!Originally Posted by blackgloves

The road came to a T and there was a lake straight ahead. A few people, probably drunk, didn't realize the light at the intersection and ended up in the lake. It wasn't known that many people had done this until the last car wasn't fully submerged, but sitting on top of two other cars.
