So when I first bought this 1987 Iroc a little over a year ago it came with these 20x8 Iroc wheels and my first instinct was I need to get rid of them. The seller gave me the factory Iroc wheels in the deal as well but they're rough looking and needed new tires. I went for a test drive yesterday and as I got back home I opened the garage and walked back to the car and was like hmm these 20" wheels are growing on me. This coming from somebody that thinks the biggest wheel that should be put on these cars is 18'. Whatcha think? Should I refurbish the factory ones or keep these on?
I'm a sucker for originality, so I'm gonna vote for the stockers...
I thought the same. I bought this for the wifey and restored it so we can cruise together with the local thirdgen group and she's in love with these wheels. It'll be a project in itself to restore the factory ones. Think she'll notice when I swap them out?
The 17x9 inch wheels from Hawks Motorsports would look AWESOME on it. I like those because they pretty much look exactly like the stock wheels....only bigger...where the 20's to me just look different...not just bigger, but the design of the wheel is a little bit off from the original wheel. I don't know lol. Just my opinion
I would ditch 'em quick, looks too much like a donk. I personally think 17s are the sweet spot, anything larger takes attention away from the car as a whole.
If you're looking for opinions, here's mine: large-diameter wheels on 30+ year-old cars just look wrong to my eye.
If you don't want to go back to the factory rims, with their limited tire choices and staggered offset that doesn't allow tire rotation, as suggested by dagwood above, look at some 17" factory-clones.
Eventually the 20s will be sold and the factory wheels will be put back on. My goal for this car was to keep it mostly stock. The 305 is tired and will be replaced with an L98 longblock down the road. Thanks for the input yall.
I had my factory wheels restored. They chemically stripped them, powdercoated them the factory grey color, then turned them down on a CNC lathe, and then used a powdercoat clearcoat on them. They look BRAND NEW. It cost me $150 per wheel.

Wow nice, there's a guy in our group that restores them
