T-Top/Targa Top mods
Has anyone seen a generic kit to turn a standard hard top into a T-top or a Targa top? If not a kit, then maybe detailed instructions.
I've seen this done to a few Fbodys, and while the outside looked good and it didn't leak, the interior looked fairly cheesy.

I agree that the edges of the headliner were done pretty cheesy. That will be fixed soon. Cars & Concepts were the main suppliers of thirdgen aftermarket/dealer installed t-tops. They are out of business, and there are no other current suppliers either that I am aware of.

Holy mackarel! I thought that if you cut the top off you would cut through the subframe braces that run above each side window, and that would be very very bad! Just what I heard, could be wrong. And that the T-top models had the brace for the frame through the T in the top. What about convertibles? huh, don't know whats on those. No full frame but just two sub-frames, one front and one back. What about subframe connectors? I've never really looked into those.

I don't even think T-top models had anything extra for support....Sub frame connecters would easily reinforce cutting the roof in half, and then some.

heh heh........good luck.
i looked into this very detailed and canceled the day they were about to cut the roof. for our cars (3rdgen) you definately needed some major reinforcing. my total cost was upward around 4-5000 when finished and i had to have a roll bar installed, i forgot how many point they said.......but i wasn't interested.
it's a cool idea that i would love to see, but it was just to costly to me at the time to consider it. that price was just with labor and parts...........i passed.
i forgot the real reason, but our cars frames are totally not setup up for it unlike the corvette, supra, targa porsche, etc.
but, i wouldn't want to shy you away; i think it would be a sweet custom setup if you didn't mind some of the limitations your left with and can find someone who will do a professional job and not use a hacksaw!
o yeah, i also forgot to mention the custom glass or solid targa top that would have to be made......... our front windshield is in no way close to use any of the other type vehicles as a setup, to have a few of those custom made came well over another 1,000.
so after all the work and info i recieved and the consideration of at least $6,000 with out even getting into my paintwork i decided against it.
still kinda wished i would have though.

maybe if you wanted to get t tops on a coupe ..find a cars and concepts top in a junked car .parts are still available through www.sunroofdoctor.com
and any bodyshop should be able to install...then you can have an f body with t tops that DO NOT leak

Don't laugh at me, but I think that old show Simon & Simon about the two brother detectives, they had a Z28 with a targa top. And yes that is the only thing I remember about the show. See ya, I am going back to the A-Team and Dukes of Hazzard marathon on TNT.
