POLL:Gotta get a import for college :(

Well boys my iroc is almost finished (new built 350 getting put in next weekend)..... its getting painted basecoat(2 layers)/clearcoat(3 layers) jet black and the Silver iroc stripe and door letter put on....... Well anyways my dad offered to buy me a "reliable import" to drive to college in..... i cant refuse ya know a free car is a free car hes going to give me $2500 for one... and im really good at body work etc so i figured id find one that needed some body work and im going to paint it basecoat clearcoat silver (already have the silver paint!) So i figured if i get one, i might as well get a cool one......
Heres my choices
1987-1990 RX-7 Turbo II (i doubt ill get this, these cars reliabilty BLOWS DICK just ask rx7speed on here)
1987-1992 Toyota Supra Turbo targa roof 5 speed (this is what im leaning towards)
1988-1991 CRX slow i think they are pretty gay but a lot of people seem to think they are bad @$$
1988-1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST The fwd turbo ones not the 4 wheel drive GSX
Eagle Talon pretty much the same as the eclipse
I dont like the 86-89 300ZX's at all
i cant think of any other ones
1988-1992 Acura integra i feel about the same about this as the CRX
WHAT WOULD YOU GUYS PICK?????

The Supras are just plain badass. Only if they are turbocharged however, the non turbo ones are slow peices of crap.

I would prob get a Talon, atleast its more american than the others. My friend has a CRX, he never bought, just a beater passed down thru the family. But he says its real fast, cuz its so light, but they are definately gay. But hey whatever happend to a Grand Am, Grand Prix, Cavaliers and all those. BTW, I've heard old import parts, cost a lot more than, todays imports, and more than old domestics for that matter.

Or you could do what I do. I go to college with my GF and she drives a Blazer. We're taking that up in a few days, I doubt my car would handle well in the snow. I agree a Supra would be cool, only with a Turbo though.

Well, I voted supra as well, but failed to read the post. I like the last gen supra. You'll probably want to dodge a turbo if your going for reliability. It's just another problem that could go wrong.

i voted the supera cause theyr sooo cool but if you want reliability i would go w/ a honda... those cars last forever, im not sure how well they hold up after modifications though.

Well, there are plenty of American muscle cars that I would get first. But if I HAD to get an import, the only 2 I'd consider would be a newer turbo Supra or a newer turbo RX-7. Like the Supra or RX-7 from the Fast & the Furious, but without ugly paint and gay stickers.

Ever thought about a dodge daytona, they're still kinda ugly but man are they reliable, and they're still american, but if i had to stick to imports i'd go with the supra, whatever you do, DO NOT buy a CRX you will hate life, my friend had an '89 that he tried to race all the time it had headers, exhaust, and intake, the car couldn't peel out unless it had dirt or water under the wheel.

how could you not like that beautiful red paint on the rx-7?

for one, it's intresting that your picking imports that are not only older, but they aren't that cheap........you buying 100k cars?

personally i would look elsewhere, the models your choosing aren't that sharp looking.....they are rather slow......and the parts are expensive.

the cars that you would really want or might be expecting to turn into are way more expensive than $2,500.

i think you'd be better off buying a late 90's civic, forgot which year the v-tec thing starts... or at least something in a decent range.

if you do find a car off your list in that range, i doubt it will be all that reliable for long and then you'll wish you never bought it. except the crx........ it takes a lot to kill one of those.

Good luck finding any of those for under $2500...

If you want reliability, get a Toyota or a Mazda non-turbo basic *** manual-everything car. That's as far as I'd take it. Forget trying to make them faster unless that's what you really really can'tlivewithoutit want... 'cause when you run a car or work it to make it faster, you're trading in some reliability for everything you do to it (even if it's a minuscule amount of reliability you're losing).

"dodge daytona....man are they reliable"

I'll have to disagree with ya man, based on the experiences of not one but 3 guys i know. On the other hand I also know a guy with a 4-cyl turbo daytona that runs mid 13s.

I'm not sure WHY he's bent on only wanting you to get an imported car, but I'll hand it to honda some of their cars just won't die. On the other hand neither will my Uncles 1978 F150 4x4 with 250,000 miles and no mechanical rebuilds or failures ever. Even the CRX probably looks better than that though... man I'm glad he finally got a new truck (yet kept that one).

Ok now that i've rambled about nothing... None of your cars listed are bad really, though I'm not a CRX fan. But CRXs are reliable. Turbos I've heard aren't good for cold starts, can anyone else verify this? On the other hand, though it is one more thing that could go wrong, tell me you'd turn it down But since its your "other car" as long as its not pathetice it just has to be "good enough."

I need to quit posting at 1:30 AM... I just realized I've said like nothing at all useful. Oh well. I'm gonna submit anyway.

Well, in my haste I made a biased vote for the Z. However, if yo are looking for reliable econimical transportation, you cant go wrong with a Ho Mo Co product. (Honda) A number of my friends had (still have) them and they were dead-nuts-reliable cars. About as tempermental as a rock, too. On the Z's Supra's and RX's, a $2500 example is probably going to be pretty rough, and when they break, they break big. Dad's '90 300ZX tore out a cam bearing a few years back, and had to get new heads shipped from Japan I'm scared to find out what that cost.

I know you want something sporty, being a youngster like you are, but you already have a Camaro to go profilin' in. College cars should be cheap, reliable and have decent space for hauling stuff. Get a decent Accord, or Civic. If you want sporty get an Integra. College cars also tend to get wailed on quite a bit so if you get something you don't really care about, it won't be so bad if it gets messed up.

Although, for $2500 I could probably build a fuel-injected reincarnation of the old Safari Wagon.....Hmmmmm....
