would you buy a color you found unattractive but...
what if you found a car with a desirable configuration (motor and options) with less than 100 made and low miles...except lets say its a color you don't like.. very rare car would you buy it?
I am so torn. cant stand the color and the price is kinda high but will increase over time.

I'd buy it. A car can always be painted a different color...

As an example, I would not buy a light brown 98 Z28. It just isn't a favorite car and the color doesn't match the car well.
If I loved the car itself and wasn't in a flip mindset, I might not mind a less glamorous color. Sometimes a nice contrasting interior / roof / trim package makes a color okay.

Color isn't a small detail when it comes to our cars.
I would not buy a color I disliked.
A proper color change including jambs and such is not cheap locally.

ok. I will share it. I have decided to buy a different car so have at it. formula 350 with low miles and ttops (factory). I don't like the color but maybe one of you do?
I watched the video and it seems like it has a misfire. maybe fouled plugs. worth looking into. very very clean.

I wouldn't. Think of the rare jamaica yellow 3rd gen or the yellow 4th gen CETA. Very rare, but I couldn't stand the yellow paint. No way, no matter how rare it is.

If the price was right, I might buy it and flip it. I'll never be happy with a color that I don't like though, regardless of rarity and condition.

just noticed your cars. which nose do you prefer? I am getting a 91 vert but I had never liked the nose yet here I am. the 91 vert just works with the nose. never liked it on the coupe.

It has the right options and miles are great but dark red is a tough one. I think it looks great on a GTA or Iroc with gold wheels and accents but I can't stand it with silver wheels/accents. It definitely sounds like it's not running right. I don't really love 3rd gen Formulas so personally, I'd pass at that price.

Have to have the color I want. Every car I buy, I have one or two favorite colors, and a few "if the price is right" colors. After that, no deal.

Re: would you buy a color you found unattractive but...
No. There is no way in heck that I would buy a car that was a color that I didn't like or want. Additionally, I wouldn't likely ever buy a car that is "less than 100 mile"/Very rare", etc. ....that's just going to be a car that you don't drive. What good is that?
Cars 3rd gen f-bods especially, are not good investments. Buy the car that YOU LIKE....and then make memories, driving the wheels off of it.

Well good luck w/the investment part. I have similar results, but still drive the wee out of 'em. To MAKE money, I would invest elsewhere.
O.K. Then what are you asking in this thread. Would you enjoy a car with a color that you don't like? I wouldn't. But no one on this forum's opinion about color-to-like ratio, really matters. That is a personal thing.

It is a handsome color and looks great on third gens. But, the Formula in great shape is what you're really buying.

I must admit that I like my 88 more than my 92... the 85-90 body kit is more aggressive than the 91-92 imho...

It's about priorities. I'll bet you've spent more than the cost of a paint job on other things that you wanted.
And to heck with "originality". These are 1980s Firebirds & Camaros, NOT Ferraris and Jaguars...

Maybe it's been a long time since you have had a car painted. How much do you think it costs to do a proper color change paint job today?

Re: would you buy a color you found unattractive but...
just did it, went from stock red to black. It was so oxidized the when you touched it your hand turned red from red paint dust. Car had minimal rust. It was taken completely apart, stripped to metal. All new seals/hinges/glass less the hatch. It was 21k. The only way you can tell the car was red is if you pull the carpet out. The car looks awesome. The black paint is like a mirror. Before someone says thats too much and they have an uncles cousins brother that knows a body guys sister that will do it for 3k or whatever, it's not gonna be a good job. I think it was 9k in materials alone. The guy spent 8 months on it (obviously had multiple projects going). He was up front, honest and it looks killer. He said if he's gonna put his name on it and it's all black, it's gonna be more cause it needs to be perfect.
if I wanted an all original car, this would
not be worth it. It would have devalued it. If you're looking for and find an all original car w great paint and you just don't like the color, it's not the car for you. I know people picking up mint irocs for 12-15k w lower miles.
either wait and get the car you want in the color you want or hold out and get a decent body and build the car you want in the color you want w the powertrain you want.
I'm in so deep on my car but it's exactly how I want it. Who knows what it's worth to someone else. The truth is that I don't care. If I wanted and paid for an all original car, 21k to make it not original w a different color wouldn't be on the table

Re: would you buy a color you found unattractive but...

The whole premise this thread question is odd; It's a personal thing...doesn't matter what WE think. The OP has very specific wants/goals and usage....so I'd think he would already know if HE would buy an unattractive color or not. What's more important: Color, or rarity? Which is more important? There's you're answer.
To wit, my next car will not have black interior. I want tan. I know me, so I already KNOW that I could find the rarest, most unicorny, sooper specialty-special, Chingadara, and I'm not going to buy it if it has black seats, carpet, door trims and accents b/c? I already KNOW that I don't want another all-black interior car. Don't need to post on the forums to ask what other interiors other people want. I know what I want. So yeah, I don't "get it". Get what you want, or don't.

I about fell over dead when I found out what paint jobs cost now vs a decade or so ago. I don't know how long ago it's been since you priced one out. I guess that's why the "Patina" look is so popular now. Nobody can hardly afford a paint job these days. That's even if you can get a shop to paint it at all. All they want to do today is insurance work.

The guy who painted my car pays his better body guys 120k(and up) a year depending on their skill set. All he does is restorations. He'll do crashed race cars and repaint rich peoples lambos also. The truth is, these guys are skilled and require/deserve a good salary/compensation. I almost crapped when I found out what it cost to paint my car but, I totally see why and was OK w it. I found some less expensive options (not Macco) and some that were more. Im appreciate good work and am willing to pay for it. I may not like paying but that's life.
