Ok, my dad found an 89 Camaro RS. It's a V6, but I have a 350 that needs to be rebuilt that I would put in it. It needs repainted, the paint is faded. The interior is just worn, needs re-done or replaced (with 4th gen seats maybe? ) It's a 5 speed. That's about all I can remember about what he told me.

 

Not much. If it has any quarter damage or serious rust, then even less. You would be miles ahead finding a 305 equipped car for your 350.

 

Ok, how does $1,300 obo sound? I'm thinking it would be about $1,100.

Here's my table of costs, tell me if I'm a little off...

Wheels: $1,000
Sound System: $1,000
Paint: $1,000
Engine: $1,200
Little Stuff: $500

So, that's about $4,700

For the sound system, nothing loud, just quality. The paint would just be a black repaint. The engine would just be a rebuilt Chevy 350, I've got the block already, it just needs built, I need heads and stuff. Also, how much for a good exhaust? I want something mellow, but not too loud. Headlight covers are around $100, right?

Sounds like too much to me. If it needs all that I probably would start much lower, and maybe go to $750 or 800.

Yeah, the little stuff is always what kills ya..
That's only half-jokingly, by the way. I added up all the little bit and pieces I have or want to do to my car, and it's somewhere in the $25,000 range. And that's not going extravagantly, but not cheaping out on parts, either.

 

If your giong to buy the V-6, you might as well run that, and then
save the money you were going to spend on the 350 swap, the
little things and the Stereo and wait a year, and buy a Z-28 with
the motor you want already in it.


Think about it this way, to put in a V-8, you giong to need
transmission, front suspension to be beefed up, radiator, wiring
harness, and all sorts of little stuff, this is going to get really
messy.


But if you buy the V-6, run it for a year, save the money that you want to spend on your swayp. And soon you could have a Z-28
or just a V-8 RS, and keep the V-6 as your daily cummutor/winter
beater.
