Overhead console worth it???
I know someone selling an overhead console for a Camaro with T-Tops. He wants around $45. Its in pretty good shape, so is it worth it. I know they have the dome light and a bag compartment, but what else do they consist of. And do they just screw into the T-Bar? Any pics would be helpful.

That is a good price if everything works. Be sure to get the post screws so you can mount yours in. You'll need to cut your headliner, there is a tech article on this site explaining how. Includes dome lamp, map light, flashlight, sunglass bag, and a couple of lame counters for keeping track of stuff like oil changes, etc.

I had one in my 85 z28. I don't have one in my 87 Iroc. I don't miss it. I wouldn't bother with one if it didn't come stock.

They come with a numerical roller system(dates, oil changes,appointments,etc...) 2 push button switches,1 operates a swivel map light, the other 1 operates the dome lamp. Of course the small "map" pouch and the "rare" flashlight. $45 is pretty cheap, better scoop it up! I will probably end up buying 2 more for my maros because I have one for my bird and I absolutely love it!

I found 2 of them at a junkyard in the same day! They were in awsome condition, and I got all of the mounting hardware. One even came with a Camaro flashlight! Total cost for 2 of em? $20!
I lucked out on that one!
Oh yeah.. if anyone wants to trade my Camaro flashlight for a Firebird one, I would be more than happy to!

Definatly worth it. I've found two consoles in the junkyard so far. I diden't think either had the flashlight 'till I got home and yanked it out of the little compartment that is was waged in upside down. I got both of mine for $30. It's a very nice mod that adds to the plain interior that our cars have, IMO. Not to mention the functionality...I can't tell you how many times that flashlight has came to the rescue.

Its a novelty item. Its not really usefull and its somewhat destructive... if you put it in you can't really remove it without replacing the headliner. $45 isn't bad for an internet price but I've been picking them up for $5 each complete at the local junkyards. They're about the easiest to find part of the hard to find parts list... Then again I bought 3 dual snorkle aircleaners and had spent less than $40, and I got WS6 springs for $5 each... So the deals come and go, just decide what you want to spend and if its worth it to you. Chances are whatever part you need the least is the one you'll find at a bargain price.

I have 4 in the basement right now. Pull-A-part charged around $10.00ea. I got one with multiple missing pieces for $5.00. All were missing a piece though. I think I can put them together and have 2 perfect ones and one to play with, the other too stripped. I want to remove the counters and put in switches for my extras. Maybe a NOS switch. I just don't have the heart to destroy a good one though.
Out of all those, I only got 1 flashlight. It's Camaro, I have a Firebird, go figure.

Now that Ive seen JamesC's pictures, I realized that the ones I have are all for t-top cars... And I have a hardtop. Hopefully I can make it work on my hardtop... if not, any one interested in trading just the console itself... we can keep the accessories we have, just swap the base... anoyone????

My buddy Jim86Bird put one in his 89 TA. Looks great, and i am pretty sure he has pics of it. He also took out those pointless counters and put in some beautiful switches for his neons and other goodies ... Shoot him an email, he will telll you all about it.

"Overhead Console"
My personal view on the overhead console is being 6ft 5ins
and when I take a short curve in my Iroc my melon bounces of that !@#$^&* thing and I was ready to rip that thing out the window, But since that car came with it I'll leave it in for now

You can find them on eBay on a regular basis... I haven't seen any in the junk yard either, but I plan on getting one this summer... along with cam and valve covers (mine are rusty). Anyhow, I won't have to worry about cutting up the headliner 'cause I don't currently have one LOL.
I think that they only came on Camaros (could be wrong) which would mean that there are no Firebird flashlights... the flashlights themselves are much less common than the consoles, because most people lose them.
