Will no heat shield hurt new paint on hood?

I just got my 87 IROC painted, and it is absolutely beautiful! But the body shop didn't put the heat shield back on, and I was worried that the heat from the engine might bake the paint on the hood. Am I right?

I'm assuming you mean the hood insulation. If so, my insulation is nonexistant and I also have bare headers and no problem that I can see.

yup my hood insulation has been nonexistent for over 3 years and no problems. i also removed the insulator on the the rear of the hood to let hot air out and no problems there either

When I bought my car it didn't have any hood insulation... and all the paint on the hood is cracked - big gaping cracks like the grand canyon. Don't know how many years the car was without the hood insulation. The paint is factory. Gonna have to strip all the paint off the hood when I get it painted.
It's your car, but personally I'd spend the $40 or so and put the insulation back on it...
