I'm a girl with no car mechanic background. My dad paid shops to do the work, so I had to learn as I went little by little.

In the beginning...my ideas were not made, so I started creating them myself. In 2000, I looked around at a few car shows. This started the marathon. By the end of 2000, I went full swing. Being single, I was on a somewhat low buget and had to be restricted to mods I could do myself: stereo, lights, cold air induction, installing GFX from junkyard, & trim color changes. So the only work I paid for was the window tint, alarm, and body paint. The big dollar items were rims, tires, and hood.

But as long as the 2.8 ran I could not see spending the $5000+ for a base tune port swap, since I had no way to do it myself and it was my only car.

This year things changed, I am dating Joe now and my mother got a new car. So I get the wagon. Joe actually has a clue about cars and going to teach me as we go. Of course now, a simple tune port swap just will not due.
Noooo! Keep the six! (Love your car BTW) From looking at your website it appears your car is a show car, not a "go" car. The six will separate your car from all the others (as I'll bet they all have V8s...). Don't let the crowd force you to be like all the rest!

Thanks for the compliment. I have considered keeping the six, just because its a darn good looking engine. That's why I have kept it so long. I know thats sounds odd, but I really love the looks of the upper intake manifold. Now its polished and I have painted the acessories candy apple red. Man it looks sweet. I just need pictures to post and you would understand.

But the engine is very, very, very sick and I don't think it would even last the year. When it got rebuilt, I don't think it was balanced properly. I have been chasing a backfire for a year and a half. It doesn't matter what we do, its still there. The dealer can't even find it. I will go as long as I can with it, hopefully thru the main show season. Simply because we have put so much work in.

So as pretty as it is and as different...I can't justify spending the time or money fixing it anymore. If I'm gonna spend it, I want to put in an 8 so I can back up the look.

Don't worry thou. Its not just gonna be any old V-8. It will definately be different and be an attention getter.

Ok. WHY? That is why would you want her to keep the six. I mean, maybe if it was the 3.1 with what is it a turbo or super......then maybe you'd want to keep that. But the 2.8...........? I just don't get it. Why would you want to seperate yourself from the rest of the crowd in such an unappealing way? There's nothing special that I know about on a 2.8. Just curious.

Add me to the catalog list too please. jump6pack@theriver.com

RedRaif, have you seen the 2.8 to 3.4 swap in the V6 forum? low bucks and about 30 hp stock. You still use all of your engine parts except for the block so it will look virtually the same. Might be the way to go so you don't have to do the work over on another engine. Here is the address:

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho....4+Swap+Boogie

Good luck and way to build a unique 3rd gen. Don't let the people who think changes like white guages make you "rice" get you down. Do what you like to your car, let them drive theirs!

Why keep the six? Because her car is a SHOW car. In car shows you gotta have something different to get the judges attention. If every other car has a V8, they will all look alike (enginewise) while the lonely (some say lowly) V6 will be different.
Besides, why should everyone have a TPI V8? My Crossfire works well enough for me...

Mmmm...maybe. Just me, but I wouldn't be all that impressed. But then again I'm not a show judge. That and I never said it had to be a tpi engine, if thats what she's doing though..whatever, although I think she said she was gonna do something different. Anyways... I guess that's why I'm not a judge. That's cool.

Ummmmm I'm pretty sure they arent calling that car rice because of the white gauges......maybe the 4lug rims and spoilers under the front and rear bumpers, red scorcher tires, etc., etc.....

just a thought

A good judge shouldn't care if you have the biggest or baddest engine. It should be about presentation. If its clean & detailed well. What you have done to improve the looks. Engine swaps do get you points, but a V-8 alone will not win you the class.

Again, don't get why any of that is rice, but thats just me. I still go by the old school rice definition: Wing taller than your roof, tailpipes your head will fit in, misbadging, and stickers out the yang. The definition seems to keep changing. It seems to include anything someone does not like. Oh well.

Mostly, I don't get the tire thing. They are good tires. I have yet to see anyone except a Cougar running with them. I can't help it that they are cool for showing. Who knows maybe Ii started the trend. I have had them for 2 years, way before the ***** craze hit around here.

and redraif: I respect your right to be different and set your car up however you like. You seem to have to defend your car more than anyone on this board. That must mean it is getting the attention it deserves. Have fun but if the engine ever goes get the V8 and you will really have fun driving your car. Imagine the POWER of the V8.

Damn I'm surprised! No one asked just
WHY?
would you want to put front wheel drive on a rear wheel drive car. Thats like making the same mistake twice.

Nope never got a catalog either. Dang this is an old post. But someone used the search button, amazing....

WHY, well were just nuts thats all...

Seriously, FWD for me because I didn't like the dish style that so many RWD versions have, &/or because they just don't make a RWD version. I found that to be true for many rim styles. Heck people do it all the time to run even some RWD rims with diff offsets, like the 4th gen style rims.

Like Redraif said.........the FWD rims are flush mounted with the tire.......not "deep dish"

Its simple really...When its something you want ti is worth the trouble. Its not like they come on and off all teh time. They get put on the car and left there. The new rim bolts to them as if they were the car's original mounting point. You never have to fool with them again until its brake time.
