It came from the factory gun metal gray. Then I was repainted blue, red, then black by the previous owners. Since I loved how the black looked I sanded off the 1/8 inch of paint all the way down to the factory paint.I cant believe I had the patience to use a da sander for 28 hours of frozen he!! sanding off that old paint

To all your painters

I have seen alot of people who painted their own cars and it look like to have been done in their garage. Arent you guys worried about dust that is floating in the air landing on the wet paint? Or do you guys all know a secret?

I had success with dust by wettting the Floor, it's much harder for dust to blow off the floor when it's wet, and Have fans blowing out every window available, and keep them blowing away from the car. Mind you dust still does get in the paint, but it's not nearly as bad as it would be.

a buddy of mine was telling me of his friend who painted his car in his back yard. its a crx and he made a paint booth out of a tarp and some leftover screen from his porch. said the only problem area he ended up with was the mosquito that landed spread eagle in the middle of the hood.. hahaha.

I did that too and hung up tarps too, there wasnt any dust on the car but the air gun did spit out a few drops of water on the paint.Yesterday I fixed those spots with wetsnading, so no probs now.

Not bad looking... I wouldn't have used the newspaper though I've seen that done at the highschool and the paint just soaked right through in areas.

I put 3 layers of newspaper on the rear hatch and side glass, since I'm going to get a new windshield I only put one layer.

LOL yeah he probaly did unbolt it...

when i took mine off... you have to take off all the lower air dam bolts, then there are some clips up in there. its a pain. plus you have to be very care ful that you have enough people carrying the fiberglass that it doesnt crakcck and spilt!

Just make sure you keep after it with good wax. Single-stage paint turns to *** real fast if you don't give it constant attention.

What kind of prior painting experience do you have in painting/prepping cars. I was thinking about redoing my bumpers this summer, possibly winter. The only problem is that I have no experience in painting cars.

Thanks,
Jesse

I have only had one assist job prior to doing my own car, I mainly looked for light spots and got to shoot a little paint on the truck. Mine I did alot of practice on scrap parts until I got my technique down.My car was the first I fully sanded, bondo'ed,and prepped for paint.

what kind of paint is it and where did you get it from???

the only reason i wont do mine in black is because i had two black cars (Z34 and a jeep) and its a pain down here to dry it all off before the sun gets to it i hate water spots

and great job on it

The paint is Nason 1 stage paint made by dupont. I paid about 150.00 for all the primer and paint. And got it from bumper to bumper auto parts.Or go to any parts house that has paint

Yeah I painted the tires but they are dry rotted in a few spots from sitting in one spot for 11 months outside the shop while I rebuilt the motor did this and that to everything else to the car. So there was no reason for me to mask them off since I have to buy new ones.
