Hey guys, what digital camera do you recomend in the $200-300 range, I don't want anything fancy, just good looking pictures, in a compact size camera. How many mega pixels should I stick with. Thanks.

I would get a camera with at least 1.3 if you dont care about anything fancy, they take a good pic. You can get an olympus 1.3 at office max for $120.

i have a kodak dx3600.specs:2. MP,2x optical/3x digital zoom,8 MB internal storage with expandable storage via compactflash cards, and it takes video, albeit crappy.i bought it at circuit city for about 480 total, and that was only because i bought the camera dock for 70 and the extended warranty for another 60 i believe.then after taxes and what not it came to about 480.but the camera itself is only 300.i love mine.doesnt have a bunch of features, but its a great starter camera for the money.click on the MORE PICS link below to see some pics.the ones with the prefix DCP are the digital pics.

Im using an Olympus C-3000, with 3.3 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, 2.5x digital zoom, 16mb storage on removable card, and it also has movie capabilities, that are actually somewhat decent. The whole setup cost about 499. Heres a nice huge pic taken with it so you can see the quality. Ps, this camera is quite small, it fits in the palm of my hand.

If you only want it for the net get a camera with 1MP-2MP, but if you want to be able to print out quality photos similar to a 35mm, get a 3MP or above.
I mainly use my HP 1MP camera for my shots, but occasionally I'll use my GF HP 2MP.

If you go to www.bestbuy.com , I know they have an Aiptek palm size camera/video recorder w/sound (about 3mins worth) including a tripod for $100. Not sure on the MP though, but might be something to check in to, I was going to get it until I figured out how to transfer VHS tapes to my computer.

I have a Kodak DC-260, 1.6 megapixels. I have an 8meg and 40meg Compact Flash Card.
Takes great pictures. Every picture I have posted was with this camera or the DC-290 which is the same camera with 2.1 megapixels.
Here is scaled down pic,

I have the sony dsc-p30, its 1.3 mp, I have a 64 meg card and (2) 4 meg cards. Between all my cards on highest resolution I can hold somewhere between 100-200 pics,
I have the Sony Die Sub. Photo Printer, the one that you dont even need a computer, It only prints 4"x6"s But 1.3 mp is enough that it prints it totally PERFECT, the Dye Sublimination printer prints through heat on colors and stuff and not ink jet, there for it is 35mm quality, you CANNOT tell the difference between my digital camera prints, and my film prints.

I'm using a Kodak Dc4800.
It was recently discontinued, but if you could probably find a use one pretty cheap?
Check out the link in my sig. to see some pictures I've taken with it. Most have been scaled down a little to reduce size, but are still somewhat large.

To transfer VHS to computer I bought a USB Instant Video made by ADS at www.computer4sure.com $60 and works great, comes with software to edit and encode video. I just did another video today, that I'll get on in about an hour and hopefully have it hosted by tomorrow.

Hp 315, 2.1 Megapizzel, they were about $299 when i got it (ok when my parents got it, but they bought it from where i work) but i think they go for about $230 nowadays. I've been really happy with it, and its so simple to use my mom figured it out without reading the directions.
Guys forgive me for posting a picture of a Cobra!! But its one of the better looking shots I've taken and I'm just using it to make a point! (edit: crap gotta resize it, and lost some quality in the process. its about 1/3 of its original size)

I have had several digital cameras...
The Kodak DC215z is a good little camera for outdoor pics. 1.5mp and is very inexpensive these days.
The Kodak 280 is one I my favorites... It is 2mp and has amazing color output which is great for shooting paint jobs. That one goes for like 2 or 3 hundred now.
I recently took some pics of my car with a Kodak DX3600. Takes good indoor/outdoor pics and it is only about $250. I think it is 2.1 mp. Has a video feature that isnt worth much.
I am getting ready to get the Canon S40 its a 4mp camera. But they out of the price ragne you are looking for. They retail for 700 but you can find them for 550.
My thing is quality and size. I like to have a small camera to carry around and than will fit in my pocket. The canon s100 and s300 are also nice. They are the alittle bigger then the Canon Elph. Great little camera for the size and money. No zoom though. I want the s40 before Carlisle in june. Plus lots of memory cards so I can take pictures of every camaro there.

Here is a picture I took today with my camera. The actual picture was over 1 meg but where I uploaded it to, wouldn't accept anything bigger than 250k. So I cropped all but my car.

Weird, I see it in both posts now... I'll try clearing my cache and see if I see it.
Hmmm, your right. Doesn't work for me either now... I'll edit the above and make a link.
Fixed now?
