New Paint: When to Wax

I need to know how long I should wait before I wax my car after getting it painted. Some people have told me 1 week, others have told me wait 2 months....So needless to say I am alittle confused, any suggestions???

Thanks

It's definitely not 1 week. Take it from me, I made that mistake the first time I got my car painted. 90 days is the safe norm, although 30-60 is what most shops have always told me (except that ill-fated first time ).

Considering the consequences of waxing it too soon, don't you think waiting is worth it? It doesn't mean you can't wash it.

It turned from a glass-smooth finish to a cracked-looking orange-peely sort of texture. Not bad, you could only really tell when there was a defined reflection (like a building) It's hard to describe, but if you've ever put liquid paint-stripper on something, then it looked the way paint does about 7 seconds after you lay down the stripper. It showed up about a week after I waxed it. I took it back and they said it was because I waxed it too early. That was back when I used Mother's Carnuba wax incedentally. They were able to wet-sand it out, and after waiting 60 days, I waxed it with no further problems.

If they baked the car after it was painted then you can wax it right away. If not go with the 60-90 day period. If you wax it to soon the paint will not cure all of the way through and you will have little spike looking things on your paint. Looks really bad. What color is it? Remember once you wax it never stop. Once you loose the color of the paint you really can't get it back.

you should wait about 2-3 months before you wax it.
