How Hard Is This...?

On a cleaning rampage, I took the insulation off from under my hood....I cleaned up the entire underside, and it's starting to look real nice, but the factory paint under where the insulation was is HORRIBLE...I was curious how difficult is it to take off and put a hood back on..? I'd like the underside to see some kind of decent paint...thanks in advance!!

Right.. Scribe a line across where the hinge attaches. Then you just unbolt it, usually easier to unbolt the hood from the hinges, rather than the hinges from the body. I've removed them by myself quite a few times, but you'll definitely want a helping hand or two if you care about your paint.

Yeah, that's one helluva heavy hood. I thought my gas struts for the hood were shot completely- until I removed my hood. Turned out, they were still helping lift the thing!

when I removed my hood fron the hinges there was NO paint under the hinge, just primer, so when I re-installed I used the old lines.

I would recommend getting an insulator just because it will help your engine heat from damaging your paint. Not to mention it might help with minor engine fires.

to answer your question, you should use 2 people, while they hold the unbolted side, remove the bolts, then run to the other side remove the bolts while hanging onto the hood so it does not slide and break your windshield.

An easy accurate way of aligning your hood is to drill a 1/8 hole on both sides and use a punch or the drill bit to put it back after you paint it.

the drill idea would work very well. I like that.

carefully take it off by unscrewing 4 screws and it might be a good idea to have at least one person help you so you don't scratch anything......
