how much is it worth 1986 iroc-z all responses welcome

I have an 86 iroc camaro medium maui blue metallic paint but the paint on the roof and rear deck are peeling, the bodys straight though, it has 14 inch rims on it not the 16's because i took them for my other car, it orignally had a 305 but now theres a 350 in it,factory tpi on the motor with air conditioning, the interiors greyish blue and is clean as a whistle but a ripped drivers seat side, power everything, locks, windows,6way power seat, and power rear hatch opener, the car also has factory reardisk and a new exhaust, the camaro rums smooth and is rather quick im wondering if 2500 is a reasonable price to ask for the car, i think 2500 is rather fair but my friend says that im loosing my mind but hes also jelous of the car. all responses welcome any criticism or questions just post em.thanks in advance.

well selling a older used car, is a touching subject. I m sure you can get that for it easy, but it just depends ons who's looking to buy it. Cause you got your I'm not going to do anything to the car thats going to decrease the value, Then you got your I don't care I want a fast car, that likes to mod. So again it all depends on the buyer. Well what I would do if I were would let know the whole swapping process, and how much TLC that you put in the car. I wouldn't got any lower if I were you, cause you could part it for more it you really wanted too.

yeah I got to agree, I would sell it for 3500obo see that way you can at least get 3200 to 3000, yeah I forgot that it was a Iroc, I think you should try to put some more 16 on through to help boost it up, just a thought.

Go to e bay and pick up a set of IROC 16" wheels to put back on it. Put nice seat covers on it and fix any small paint chips and you'll be looking at 3-4k easily.

according to kelley bluebook:

Mileage: 100,000

Equipment
IROC Pkg
Air Conditioning
Power Steering

Consumer Rated Condition: Fair
"Fair" condition means that the vehicle probably has some mechanical or cosmetic defects, but is still in safe running condition. The paint, body and/or interior need work to be performed by a professional in order to be sold. The tires need to be replaced. There may be some repairable rust damage. The value of cars in this category may vary widely. A clean title history is assumed. Even after significant reconditioning this vehicle may not qualify for the Blue Book Suggested Retail value.

Trade-In Value $960
Trade-in value represents what you might expect to receive from a dealer for this consumer owned vehicle. Keep in mind that the dealer must then absorb the cost of making the vehicle ready for sale, advertising, sales commissions, arranging financing and insurance and standing behind the vehicle for any mechanical or safety problems.

Private Party Value $1,755
Private Party value represents what you might expect to pay for a used car when purchasing from a private party. It may also represent the value you might expect to receive when selling your own used car to another private party."

Honestly the only ppl that go by that are 1: Not lookin for a car that old(reliabilty) 2: Most likely gonna buy a Honda( or somthing of that nature and 3: prob not an Enthusiast about Camaro's in general. The book can be used as a guideline but that about all. I wouldn't go any lower than 2500 on it myself cuze someone will pay that or higher no matter what the book tells ya...my 2 cents

I would attempt to get whatever you can for the car, selling to an enthusiast won't always get you the best price, cuase most of us no what to aviod. But selling to someone who wants it cuase its a Camaro and it'd be cool, will jump on it.

The price is too high IMO if you are leaving it as-is.

Remember that this isn't an authentic 5.7 car, so anyone looking for a 5.7 specific-car won't pay good $ for it.

Also the 14 inch wheels just screw the whole look up. Put yourself in the buyers' shoes.... first impressions make all the difference in the world. People look at a car and picture themselves driving it. Could you see yourself driving that car? Neither would anyone else :nono:

Take a little time and put a little effort into preparing the car for sale. Like was mentioned above, put seat covers on it, touchup/polish/wax the paint, and make it look presentable. I'm sure with a little work and about $100 worth of detailing products the car will bring $2500-$3000.

If you choose to leave it as is expect someone that see's it for what it's worth to offer you much less if he/she has to take the time to do the things that you won't.

Good luck....

paint peeling off in sheets is a common problem for f-bodies made around the 1986 model year. roof is usually first, then the paint starts falling off the hood. big blotches of grey primer will be visible where the paint is missing. unfortunatetly, the paint issue makes the overall condition of the car "fair" or perhaps "poor" depending on who's appraising the car.

$3k is full retail for the car if it has around 100k miles. maybe you'd get that in the summertime if the car had a showroom quality paintjob, perfect interior, and original rims but it's very unlikely with the car in it's current condition.

for comparison, older lt1 equipped 4th gens in nice shape can be bought for around $5k-$6k in my area. so price your 17 year old iroc accordingly.

My car just got repainted. It had that problem and they had to strip it down to the bare metal.... Wasn't cheap

paint delaminating problem isn't just on f-bodies, are many other general motors cars made during the mid-1980's that had the problem too. are some chyrsler vehicles with similar paint related issues as well.

have seen some people that try to fix the problem by putting a cheap $500 maaco paint job over the peeling paint, but within a few months the new paint is peeling off in sheets too.

stripping the offending areas to the metal is the way to go, but isn't cheap as you pointed out. repainted one of the birds with delaminating paint close to 5 years ago and haven't had any of the new paint peel off yet.
