Duplicolor paint

My brother cracked his front bumper. I already had an iroc front end, so we're going to put all the gfx on. He doesn't have money for a paint job now, so we're using Duplicor spray can paint. I test sprayed the rear quarter gfx yesterday to see how well they would match his paint. The color came out very close, but it has a lot of texture compared to the glossy paint on the rest of the car. What can we do to make the paint not look so flat? Should we sand it? If so, should we use 400 grit and should we do it wet or dry? Is there a canned clear that we should use as well? Any help would be appreciated.

sounds stupid, but the only thing i can suggest is try holding the car farther away and doing lighter coats...may take a lot longer, but it shouldnt give you a textured look.

Duplicolor is a laquer spraypaint, no matter how you hold the can, it will come out semi-dull untill you lightly colorsand (or use a microcut rubbing compound) and some polish (you can even use Meguires body scrub to 'buff' it), but, any way it goes, you'll have to put a bit of effort into it to get a 'glossy' shine.

Since it's nothing but the best for my camaro, after it was smeared in the rear, I ended up just putting duplicolor gunmetal grey on it and called it done.

The process I used was just paint it on as smoothe as you can w/o rrunning it, let it dry an hour or two, get some 1000-1500 grit rubbing compound to knock down the orange peel, then buffed it with meguiars body scrub (available practically anywhere), an just check out the 'ooo-ahh' results..

I didn't do the whole car like this because it's simply not worth the trouble, I did take this pic awhile back for someone who wanted to know how glossy/shiney duplicolor can be. laquer paint w/o clear requies a bit more love to keep it looking nice though.
