Well I have an 89 camaro and am FED up with the stupid design of the plastic dashes in the 82-89... I put a used one in that I got from hawks to replace my original that had cracks and what a nightmare. Damn thing cracked when I was putting it in.... Well now I am considering getting the 91-92 style plastic dash because it looks nicer and I think maybe constructed better?? I havn't seen any 91-92 platic dashes with cracks?? Have you??
Anyways I hate to get rid of my full circle guages especially since I spent so much time doing the DIY white face guages.. But I guess I have to give a little to get somewhere.. Please post pics of your 91-92 white face guages... I also understand 91-92 a 140 MPH speedo is hard to find? My last question is how do you switch from cable drive to electric?? Is it hard?
THANKS!

heres my gauges...sorry for the ****ty pic quality damn sun reflected off of the black hood.
As for the dash from what I hear its constructed better. And it seems so. As for the dash cracking thing it does crack. Just usually its not as bad for the 91-92 cause mine has a very very minor crack in the area above the speaker. Really small nto really noticable. As for the 140mph gauges...you could probalby find them easy. I see them alot at the junk yards if I see 91-92's. As for the conversion...I'm not sure...I'm guessing you would just have to switch the sensors in the trans to the new electronic versions. But I'm not 100% sure on what has to be done.

Revlimit would you be willing to sell me a 140? How
much would it cost? Are those DIY white face guages
on there or are the MacEwen? If they are DIY how
does that work because I thought the light shines
through the numbers...
thanks!

Its home made. Yea the light shines through but the numbers are black. Most people make the numbers blue or red and then you print on the back of the face black so that the light only shines through the numbers. But for me I made it shine through the whole thing. Mostly cause at night it doesnt look like your average camaro. Cause the whole gauges faces are lighted up. Imma probably put some blue bulbs behind it soon in an attempt to make it look indeglo or something. Me and my friend are going junk yard hopping soon. I'll go check howmuch their selling them for.

You can always try searching for a cluster at car-parts.com. It's a junkyard search engine. I found a cluster for $100 (cheapest I've ever seen online) from a place in Oregon, guaranteed to work. Another place in Utah had one for $50, but no guarantees. I'm not much of a gambler, and I don't know if they have a good mechanic or a drunk chimp yanking that stuff out, so I went with the place in Oregon. I only searched yards in the northwest, to save on shipping, but you can pick by region or state. I'm from BFE, and no yards here have any thirdgens that haven't been picked clean, so online is my best option. You might get a better deal in person. Or, Hawks and TGR have them listed at $200. Sorry to ramble it's late and I'm low on caffene
Oh yeah, for the electronic clusters, on my 91 at least, the VSS sends a 4000 pulse per mile signal to the ecm, which then controls the speedo and cruise control. The signal to the speedo is also 4000 ppm, but it's digital, where the one from the VSS is analog (AC). That's what I got from my Helm's, anyone correct me if I'm wrong here.
If you can find an analog to digital converter it might work. If you are good with electronics, try chopping up a modem

Lit up, it looked horrible. The 91-92 Gauges are hard to do because the leight goes right through the gauges. When the lights were on, you could see shadows from the speedo gears and stuff. They looked sweet in the day though.
How do you switch from a cable driven speedo to the 91-92 electric? I need directions. I can't find ANYTHING on the swap. I have searched and searched. I need a list of parts I will need for the conversion. I know people have done this. I just want to know if its a PITA or not as far as wiring...
Any info on the swap would be appreciated!
THANKS!

THe 90-92 gauges from Macwean look better than making my crappy DIY gauges, they only really work on the non back lite gauges.
The inlays work better than printing them on paper yourself.
Bill, I'm working on it, me and you should team up and search the board!

pennylessz28 I have to find out whether I am going to be able
to swap the 91-92 electric guages in. Umm the thing I like about my full circle guages is that I made those and they look damn good and I also have the rs emblem on it and stuff.... I would hate to lose them but damn that dash is constructed like ****... I had one hell of a time... Then I get the thing in and crack it in the process....
btw Did you get my email about the solid red taillights I am working on?? Thanks man....
