Clear tail lenses

Does anyone know of a company that produces clear tail lenses for either 1989 firebird formula 350 or 1989 camaro Iroc's? I'm just curious.. I currently own a formula 350, and i'm talking a deal with a guy with the iroc.

im a dealer and i am in a constant fight with apc (they are the biggest supplier of these lights)

they dont want to bring them out because the molds are very expensive and yadda yadda yadda...so if more people want them they will make them...hell they made them for the older stangs..so why not us?

iroc2nv

ps and if i hear anything i will get back to you!

THere is a guy whom I talked to at the car show who made his own. Next week I am gonan take some pictures, thought people on here would find it interesting. He pulled the lens off his Camaro Grid lights and then used some silver metal crap, forget what and a few otehr custom fabed pieces of aluminim and then cut some plexi to match the orginal shap of the lens. He now has home made euros.

It really didn't look all that bad.

Still rice. But nice

my thought exactly, if i knew how to fabricate them i'd go for it myself and sell the molds to a company.. leaving me with a pretty good size profit.. but i'm young and dumb, you know how that goes..

i recently was checking out a 93 mustang lx 5.0 and was about to buy it, then it hit me.. too many people have mustangs, and i've always been anti-ford.. i have no clue why i was about to buy one.. then i saw this beautiful orange 1989 camaro iroc-z and was like, oh my ***, i've always wanted an iroc, and here's my chance! and to my disbelief, the damn thing is only going for $2,500USD.

i was thinking the homemade idea as soon as i read no one makes them. I don't think i'd really put them on my car, but i'm thinking of the possibilities, who would buy them? think i'll make a post for who would buy them and kinda test the water before hopping in the pool.

all i was thinking of doing was taking the backing off (punching the rivets out ) and having the electrical stuff on one side (for now) and the lens itself on the other...then peel the inside colour off or do something like that, then carefully superglue the 2 things back together, change the colour of light bulbs and see where it leaves me...will this work? or am i looking for trouble...im gonna do it either way and ill be sure to post pics (lots) if it works then ill sell it to apc (after i trademark it)

the only problem i'm foreseeing with your plan iroc, is the ability to peel the color off. i'm pretty sure a red lens is a red piece of plastic, i don't think there is like a color film or filter on the inside, but i'm not completely sure. Also, your going to need something that is red and visible, otherwise you'll render the tail lights illegal. all i can say is good luck to my fellow competitor.

well,

to be totally honest..there isnt much that is legal on my car anyways...lets see...

1.spoiler is too tall cant see out my rear window
2.no front or rear rebars/bumpers
3.too many lights/neons
4.too low to the ground
5.stereo is too loud
6.exaust is too loud
7.REALLY close to the max hp on the street
8.need i go on??

so what would 1 more thing making it illegal do?? aside from making apc not want them i guess..

but i will continue with my plans..and next will be..

WORLD DOMINATION!!

sorry just had to say that

actually i dont think there is a law saying the maximum horsepower on the streets , also how much hp do u got , also i dont think there is a law on height , especially by the way you're pics look it doesnt look like you're car sits nearly as low as some low riders.

iroc2nv, even though you don't care about legality, i thought you wanted to sell the lights? some people won't want a light that makes them get pulled over constantly. And APC prob wouldn't buy it. I was thinking the same thing myself though, lol what IS legal on my car? but, if you sell stuff it has to be street legal, or just make sure if you sell them on ebay or something, write "For Off Road Use Only"

well hp wise i dont really know..but i do know that when i race ls1 camaros i beat them by at least half a car length(1/4) and i live in canada so there is a law for being too low (has to be 3 inches in the wheel well and 3 inches off the ground..and im way below that..hp wise its like 400 to the ground (rwhp) i dont think im there yet..but after the mods this winter i should be pretty damned close...

as for selling them thats how i was planning on doing it...marking the packages

"FOR OFFROAD USE ONLY" gets me outta the hot water thats for sure

DAMN CANADIAN LAWS!!!!! i dunno how they could limit horsepower and ride height. lol "those zamboni's are looking a little too low, lets chase it down on our horses and make a siren noise" -the royal canadian mounted police. Thats horrible that they do that iroc, but if they wrote you a ticket for too much HP, how would they know? would they dyno the car? i am intrigued. And yea, offroad use would def save our skins, but i'm trying to make mine 100% legal.

the only time i like those kind of lights is when the car is white. other than that i think they stand out way too much i dont like the way they look on darker colors.

I dont think that the import companies want to make clear or euro lenses for 3rd gens is because not as many people try to rice out 3rd gens out like mustang owners do. I dont want to say I like or dislike the idea of euros on a 3rd gen just becasue I have never seen them b4. What I would like for my car is tail lights that were maybee red all the way across. I like the look of stock tails there is just too many colors.

I saw a pic somewhere of a 3rd gen with clear tails. It was grey and the shot was from the back. Not sure how he did it though, sorry.

I don't know why I'm in this thread, but I'm glad I came in here. You guys have really provided me with a healthy dose of laughter. No, not about wanting clear tail lights for your car, that's just personal taste, and to each his own. I'm laughing at the idea of a company like APC "buying" your homemade creations. I'll bet ya fifty cents that they have their own R&D staff that design and produce the molds necessary to make the custom tail lights they sell. It's laughable to think they would ever buy something from some teenager (I'm assuming) that he made in his dad's garage with materials from Home Depot.

Thanks for the laugh.

P.S. I have some red, 2" round reflectors on my mailbox post that I'll send you if you think you can use them.

well matt, i am a teenager, but no, i don't think apc would buy these, i'm sure they are much more capable of building these things easier, cheaper and probably better. BUT, they don't, and thats why we're all putting our heads together to make them. If they don't sell it, and theres a demand for it, my guess is someone who wants them would buy it just simply from me, through ebay, newspaper classifieds, etc. Personally, i'm not a huge fan of this style, but i think i made a set of my own that weren't necessarily *****, i might use them and sell them to other thirdgenners.

Also, when you look at the picture, the colors i wrote in there are for the backround, not the actual lens. the lens would be clear plexiglass. the circles in the sketch are the lightbulbs. Suggestions, comments are welcome! By the way, would anyone buy a set?

well in respect to how they would know you have too much hp...they take your car to a dyno(tow it, and not care how it gets on the truck, ripping anything off is ok to them) and dyno it at their "chosen" facility..i havent had this done (yet) to my iroc but my cavalier was a little too loud and quick so they wanted to see..and thats what i mean about ripping the skirts off...my front skirt was lying in the road as my car was being pulled up the flatbed..(my cav was 1/4 off the ground in the highest place when i put the coilovers to where they ended)..heres a pic of the cav (sorry about not cropping not sure how to do that yet)..and as ofr apc buying it...if they do they do they dont they dont..im not really into this to make money but if i do bonus

Can't you just remove the outer lens, and replace it with a clear piece of plexi or lexan, attatch with some type of super glue/epoxy resin? Use these for the bulbs, they come in both red and amber, and you can probably find some in white (for the reverse lights) or is this not what you're wanting?

There's several sets of rear lights on ebay right now, might be a good idea to snag one or two and do some R&D

Hey I think it's a great idea- the clear lense thing! From the number of postings I bet we could get some interest from a manufacturer in making them. Is there anyway to get a list of 3rd gen owners who would be willing to buy them? If we sent that to a manufacturer they WOULD see the 3rd gen market is alive and well.

Eh, not a fan of the look but to each his own. Just thought I'd mention there ARE bumper height limits as far as I know. Whether they are strictly enforced is another thing.

Those look like aftermarket lights for an integra or something. They are not desighned for a camaro. Just look at the side edges.
